Andy's Optima steering knuckles installation issues

Post by HKS_TRD »

Hi all

I have a pair of Andy's steering knuckles I plan to use on a Mid or a Lazer and they have me a little stumped.
Rather than having the lip between the two bearings which locates them, they are smooth meaning you can push a bearing right through. I can't find any info online for how they were intended to be used. The only solution I can see is to use flanged bearings on either side but not sure if the bearings then end up being spaced too far apart, anyone got any ideas or able to help?

You are correct...you have to use a 5x10 mm flagged bearing. Andy's used the same part for the Yokomo yz10/870c.....which uses this bearing in the stock configuration.

If you compare the width of the stock Kyosho part vs. The Andy's...the Andy's should be a little bit narrower to compensate for the flange.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Roger

Thanks thats a big help

I can see what you mean about them being a bit more narrow to account for the flange
I imagine any 5x10x4 flanged bearing I can find on eBay will be fine or is there a particular one that is best quality, just wondering if even the flanges are equal width on all of them

Any one should work. I got a generic set (4) from eBay when I installed mine.

If you're not happy with the Andy's....RPM made ones for the Kyosho cars. Those have the lip...so normal bearings can be used and there's a metal thread for the shoulder screws.

I'd like to use them because I have them, they will probably go on the Lazer Tub project and maybe a pair on my Mid SE shelfer, but I also have a pair of genuine Kyosho knuckles I polished and filed the cast marks out of.

Too many parts and projects, not enough time or space!!!
