To strip off without any danger a pair of rear gold anodized shocks that were quite worn, I decided to use the manual sandblasting technique like proposed in another post. It took me some time but if you don't have to strip the shock caps like me, an hour for two shocks must do.
The worn gold shock before being sandblasted with a 600 grade sandpaper:

before and after sandpapering two times, firstly with 600 grade designed for 1:1 car bodies, secondly with a 3M 150 (thin) sandpaper, then polishing them with a liquid metal polishing product from HG ( http://www.hginternational.com/ ). I'm definitely quite happy with the result and as I'm a little bit lazy, I decided not to strip the bottom and the top end collar, wich is fine...

The completed chassis with truck front gold shocks that are too good to be stripped... they'll remain like that maybe until I find a worse pair... time will tell... The wing is only there for show

thanks Scr8p, they will only be polished once in a while to keep on blinging, but it seems I have a new disorder, I also stripped the nose plate, which was in a poor state already, now aluminium front A-arms could still add something though

anyone here removed the gold anodizing from a gold tub? i've use easy/off to take anodizing off other rc stuff but the rc10 tubs look a little more durable. i dont' think it'll come off as easily and cleanly. maybe some sort of paint stripper is in...

nevermind....discoverd the 'search' function....
I just wanted to know what prep you need to do before stripping shocks. Basically do you strip the anodizing off the inside as well?

i assemble the shock body and the shock cap and then strip with easy off.
i prefer to do it that way to keep anything from getting on the inside of the shock body.
did a search but couldn't find any posts on this- what's a good method to get a nice clean and complete removal of the original rc10 chassis anodizing?

actually now that i look thru those search results the decent info is pretty buried...
I'm going to be re-anodizing a couple sets of Traxxas blue shock bodies and caps for my TRX1 and N Hawk. I'm trying to determine if they should be 'type II' soft anodized or 'type III' hard anodized. Also trying to determine if they'll need to be...

I've done a little reanodizing of RC10 tubs and other small bits with local anodizer. The finish varies a lot based on prep. Just take it to them with no prep kind of a dull. A little fine sanding finishing working up to say 2000 grit its better but...
I forget who here does anodizing, but I think they could make some coin anodizing all of those gold aluminum parts to other colors. If you wanted to just strip them and send them back to people, that would probably be a demand too.
I would consider...

That's looks really good...nice to see some numbers to back it up too.
After a lot of searching ive found a decent stealth champ edition. Tub is in great great condition, it just has loads of tape covering the screws on the underside. Whats best for removing the residue without harming the anodising?
Thanks

I just have some automotive brake cleaner that I use... takes of just about everything but the anodizing and the stuff I have is safe for the nylon as well. 24 hours with a lubricating oil to remove what the brake cleaner takes off in seconds? Not...
I'm currently working on some vintage kyosho projects. The Optima was my second car I ever had and I'm recently back into RC and want to recapture some of that magic LOL.
Does anyone have any good ideas where to get gold shocks.
On a side note,...

I have a set of the rear Duratrax Gold Shocks if you are still looking for gold shocks. PM if interested.
(I also have the full set of Kyosho Golds, but they are on my Turbo Ultima Pro XL, which would also be available if interested).
How awfully wide would it look with a gold pan and t3 arms/shocks? I was eyeballing it, and it would be one wide SOB.
I tried the search, but it wont let me search for t3.
