Determining rollout and gear ratios for 1/12 scale

Post by tommykart »

Ok here is the question. What are target ranges for both gear ratio and rollout supposed to be for 1/12 pan cars on small carpet road track? I have looked at some charts and some calculators for the numbers, but what are the target numbers that you look for?

I am running 49mm rear tires with 76 spur and 50 pinon

thanks for all input in advance
Tom

It depends on the wind of the motor...

My blinky 17.5 car:
Geared 58/76
43mm rear tires
= 103mm roll-out

if your running mod it should be much less. I would reference some of the setup sheets on the AE site for a starting point.

This document is a good read, pg 2 talks about rollout. It's written more for off-road, but it's still general enough to be applied to 1:1 on-road.
