Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
Hello, I was wanting to know if anyone knew what available parts I would need to put truck tires on my rc10 goldpan? It has the stock axels and wheel stubs and arms on it now! I dont want stadium truck tires something more the line of a monster truck tire to play around with so I dont have to buy a new monster truck kit. Thanks for your help! Hope everyone has a great 4th of July weekend!
Re: Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
This setup works...for the rears on my TQ10 (same rear as the gold pan)
Universal Shim, 3/16"ID:T2, 3, 4, B2, 3, TC4 (ASC7368)
Universal Roll Pin:T2, 3, 4, B2, 3, TC4 (ASC7369)
3/16 R Stub Axle:T3 RTR (ASC7378)
R 1Pc Wheel, White:T2/3 (ASC7803)
Fr/R Speed Paw 2.2 Truck (PRO104700)
You'll also need new bearings (3/16 x 3/8 flanged - on mine the non flanged kept getting pushed out the carrier - probably was a little worn)
Not sure about the fronts - changed my mind on wanting a truck mid mod so never got the fronts - figure most anything will work as long as the rims don't rub when turning (on the short arms) and you get the right bearing diameters to the axles you have (I think all the 2.2s are 3/16 x 3/8 whereas original is 3/16 x 5/16? - not sure).
If you need a pic I can mount the rears and post to see if it is what you are looking for.
Also you'll have to change your gearing to run such big diameter tires...

Re: Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
The easiest thing to do is to use HPI 5-star wheels:
rear http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0004p?&I=HPIC2140
and front http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0004p?&I=HPIC2105
They come with adapters for 1/4" rear axles and for standard front bearings. you may need new wheel bearings up front depending on what wheels you have now, (some stock buggy wheels use 3/16x3/8" bearings, and some ae wheels are 3/16x5/15 flanged)
for tires something like the original proline mashers

or masher2k: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUM93&P=7

Re: Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
Thanks Floodx and aconsola! Thats just what I needed to know! Ill take a look at everything tonight! That way I can convert over without having to spend alot of extra money! Appreciate your help and time! Have a good weekend! As soon as I get some petty cash Im going to do it and Ill send some pics! You all have been a great help!
Re: Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
I am guessing the HPI that aconsola suggest will end up being cheaper it they come with adapters.
Just for reference mine were $25 (tires included) and bearings were another $7. This is just for the rear. The front will cost me another $7 for bearings and $15 for the rims+tires if I ever decide to complete the job.

Re: Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
Just thought about something else that you guys might be able to answer. I have a standard medium Futaba steering servo, old s128, for the car. When I add the monster truck tires and rims will I need to upgrade it to a High Torque steering servo? Also what should I change my gearing to? I have a speed gems 2 jade 15x4 motor geared at 81/16 for the car. It has the 6 gear tranny so my final gear ratio is 9.5. I also have the original Associated stock off road motor and a 5000mah NiMH battery pack. Thanks again, you all have been so helpfull! I think I will go with the HPI 5-star rims with the proline Masher 2k tires that Aconsola suggested. Good pairing combo. Looks nice!

No clue on the servo...
Depends on the change in diameter of those tires and the diameters your running now...
Quick and dirty - use the link below and start with a rollout near 1 - then adjust based on the stress put on your motor (i.e. heat, sluggish accel) and the burn time of your battery. To hot to touch for more than a few seconds raise the FDR - cool as a cucumber you can drop the FDR.

Re: Need help on parts needed for truck tires!
Those tires are huge compared to buggy wheels. I'd go with a 12t pinion and whatever the largest spur you can fit.
For steering you will want something a little stronger. There are lots of choices. All the radio companies make some, hitec or tower hobbies house brand seem to be the best prices for a given performance level.
If you don't mind ebay off brand stuff, look for the mg996r or mg995 servos. They are super cheap compared to a similar spec futaba or hitec servo.
