3200 lipos
i'm planning on picking up some lipos later on this year....... closer to the nats. i don't race locally/weekly anymore, so there no sense for me to buy real expensive packs. so, i'm looking at getting the yeah racing 3200's. they seem pretty reliable and they're inexpensive.
now, with the 3200's, you kinda need 2 packs in case of bump ups, right. i don't think there would be enough time to repeak the pack if there wasn't enough rounds between my races. thoughts..... suggestions? i don't think one would last 2 5 minute races........ even with a 17.5. i could be wrong though. it's all new to me.
now, i'm gonna have to get a saddle lipo pack for my yoke, also. the ones i've seen are all 4000 or higher. would i need 2 packs for that, too? or would a 4000 or higher pack last 2 races?

Re: 3200 lipos
I was getting 12 minutes run time out of my B4 with a 10.5 brushless in it and the 3200 Orion pack. I don't see why it wouldn't go 10 minutes on a 17.5/27t.
Buy the Orion pack if you can, they are really cheap right now (A main, Stormer, Tower). No need for a balancer with these packs, no crap. I had a 3200 sitting idle for about 3 months with 50% charge. Got it out and put a voltmeter to it, and they were perfect. Same goes for the 3600 Orion. But it has only been idle for about a month.
As far as the 4000 goes in a 4wd, it should be able to run 10 minutes. Assuming you dont go out and do 20 hotlaps before the race starts.
Moral of the story, 1 pack for each car ought to do it. These packs are nothing like what you are used to.

Re: 3200 lipos
ok, thanks brandon.
i might end up going with the dodc spec 3200 lipo, just in case i want to race any of the PA nitro tour, or race at any track that goes by the dodc spec 13.5, 17.5 rules. i kinda doubt i will, but i'll need that lipo if i do.

Re: 3200 lipos
I think you would be fine with a 3200. We only use 700-1000mah of lipo capacity per 5 minute heat with a couple warm up laps, supercross style offroad, modern 2wd buggy and truck, with Novak 17.5s geared fairly high. Strangely we don’t see much difference between buggy and truck. With 27T we were in the 1000-1300 range. My more aggressive ‘Team Driver’ (my son) towards the high side, ‘old fart’ driver (
) on the low side.
If there is any time available you can throw them on the charger right away for a few minutes without charging all the way. Unlike nicads especially, which don’t like not being cycled all the way both on the charge and discharge side.
You will use less with lipo than round cells, they are more efficient, a lot less energy going into heat.
Can’t help with the 4 wheeler, I’d assume it would use more.
Or oval, (dodc?) can’t help with that either. Is it higher due to the higher average speed, or lower because of less acceleration from low speed???

Re: 3200 lipos
just to add on this..............
i guess it's alright to use the lipo packs with say an lrp qc2. it would just be wise to get one of those novak lipo cutoffs, right?

Re: 3200 lipos
I just ran a carpet oval event with a DODC spac pack, a blue can 27t motor, and an old-school tekin g12c ESC. A few hot laps and a 4 minute run and I only had to put about 1300mah back into the pack after the first heat. I then ran the second heat and main without charging in between and it was fine. I think if you monitor your usage similar to this you should be safe without the cutoff. Just avoid prolonged practice sessions.

Re: 3200 lipos
I agree. I sometimes run them with my old Novaks and just make sure to stop before performance starts falling off. If I were a lawyer though, I would throw in a disclaimer against doing that.aconsola wrote:I just ran a carpet oval event with a DODC spac pack, a blue can 27t motor, and an old-school tekin g12c ESC. Re: 3200 lipos
well, i think i would get one of the cutoffs, just to be on the safe side. it's worth the $25 if it'll keep me from possibly killing a $75+ battery pack.

Re: 3200 lipos
For a little more you could get one of these with it built in. It is a great esc. Of course you start down that slippery slope when you start thinking this way too.scr8p wrote:well, i think i would get one of the cutoffs, just to be on the safe side. it's worth the $25 if it'll keep me from possibly killing a $75+ battery pack.

Beware this exact link though. Make sure it comes with the Castle link software. I have an extra disc and usb cable if you need it.

Re: 3200 lipos
It will run any brushed or sensorless brushless motor. Great programming too. You may find an even cheaper used one. Tha Mamba Max is better if you ask Castle, but I have 2 Maxes and one Sidewinder and I can't tell any difference(on 2s). The Max is a little more programmable maybe, but nothing major.scr8p wrote:wouldn't you have to use one of their motors though?

Re: 3200 lipos
if you plan on running DODC, that esc will only be legal for the open class and not the 17.5/13.5 spec as they are sensored motors.

Re: 3200 lipos
right now, i'm not too worried about it. i really don't see me doing any oval racing any time soon. i'm just trying to figure out my plan of attack for the 09 nats, and try to do it as cheap as possible. which is why i asked about using the lipos with the older esc's. i have plenty of them, and plenty of 27t motors.aconsola wrote:if you plan on running DODC, that esc will only be legal for the open class and not the 17.5/13.5 spec as they are sensored motors.
it's already gonna be a miracle if i even make it there this year. i hope so, though.
