Powdercoating pricing!!

Post by tecnica2001 »

I was so  by Erich's Moo RC10T and Jason's (hoopty) RC10 powder coated chassis that I want to powder coat my RC10T chassis as well.

For those of you who have gotten your chassis powder coated, how much can I expect to pay??

I want to go in with an Idea, I don't want to go in there and find out later that I got robbed

It will be for my Vintage Nats RC10T that I'm planning on running next year also at the Nats if they have them again :D

Any suggestions on pricing or places to get it powder coated are more than welcome. There's a place about 5 mins. from where I work that does powder coating. So I'm gonna check them out first.

P.S. I refuse to do it myself :P

I can't help you on the price but on a side note, both chassies you mentioned were factory powder coated 8)

i can give you the place in long island i use (its in farmingdale long island), they charged me $40 for my tube chassis, and that got a pretty heavy coat of powder. i dont know if thats cheap or expensive or the guy undercut himself cause he kinda whipped the price out off the top of his head, but i thought it was fair and didnt mind it at all and was VERY VERY happy with the way it came out.

i am getting a kyosho ultima chassis powdercoated soon with a ceramic nitrite chrome coating, and a regular gold chassis that was cleaned up powdered also, ill let ya know what they charge me for them

the place is

Thanks Jay, I couldn't remember what the other colors were

Mike 40 bucks doesn't sound bad at all, If I can get if done for that, near where I work, then I'll do it locally, if not, then I'll go with the guys you're talking about, thanks for the info.

the factory powder coated neon colors were done in white first so you might want to keep that in mind also. it might change the pricing somewhat.

the white is probably the primer that is always applied before powdercoating. probably a self etching metal primer. important step so the powder wont flake off if cracked. all places should prime stuff first.

now that i think about it too, i had a bike frame re-powdercoated about 5 years ago for like $60, that included a media/sand blast cleaning, which most places do to prep the surface anyway

Powdercoating or anodizing pricing depends very much on the color that you want. If you want some unique colour and it is in small quantities then expect higher charges. Say you want something done in black (common color), they can stick it in with another job hence it will not be much of an effort for them. If you want them to prep the surface it would be additional charges as well. Best is to talk to the owner of the shop, you will be surprise what a carton of beer can do. :D

So...........The Worlds chassis were anodized black but all the other colored chassis, besides the gold, were powdercoated including the black team chassis? Why would this be?

any black or gold associated chassis was anodized. the worlds chassis was hard anodized. that's the only difference.

Probably just marketing (pretty flouro colours, it was still the early 90s remember :D )......powdercoating is way heavier than anodizing.
