2025 RC10Talk.com Roostpalooza post race!

Post by Brendan2904 »

Post race recap. Post pics of your ride and your setup! Pit pic’s are welcome too!

I want to see the nuts, bolts, servos, esc’s, motors, batteries etc!
Yes I am weird. I have never been a racer. Just a backyard/schoolyard/street runner. This stuff really is interesting! Can’t wait to see your pics!

Stadium Truck
Losi LXT (2nd hobby grade rc I've ever owned)

Chassis: it's mostly period correct Running the old LRM transmission with original single pad slipper, no hydradrive installed. Graphite rear arms, Technicraft and Lundsford turnbuckles with RPM ballcups. Front arms, bulkhead and brace are all RPM along with the gear cover. MIP CVDs. Shock bodies are aftermarket threaded units. Running a servo saver, not for the servo's sake but for the belcranks. It also has a Trinity front ballstud kingpins for the camberlink (I forget what they called it).

Electronics: Hobbywing XR10 ESC, Schurspeed V4 17.5 motor, PowerHD S15, Team New Wave 4600mah LCG shorty Lipo technically a HV pack but only charged to 8.4v

Tires: Ancient Proliine "The Edge" fronts and Schumacher Vee2 rears

Front body mount broke during practice on Saturday and didn't have a spare so ended up using a velcro strap to hold the broken mount down to the chassis for the remainder of the weekend. Traction was a non issue for this thing although to keep the feel similar with the other 3 cars I ended up turning -40% exp on the throttle and setting the drive frequency to 10k on the ESC to help with the lower traction surface as 2k seemed a bit too aggressive. The truck by far felt the best out of the 3 cars I entered

Qualified 3rd overall (with a half uncharged battery pack because i didn't have enough time to charge it all the way, probably helped), which to be frank, surprised the hell out of me. It handled great in the morning and I had to soften it a bit throughout the day to deal with the track getting more and more blownout and bumpy. It was all looking great but in typical fashion of me, I made an epically stupid mistake at the start where I got stuck on the tube at the start putting me at the back. Never really could recover from that point, I'd make up a few places but then make more stupid mistakes and ultimately ended up 2nd to last in the A. But hey at least I made it into the show even if I decided to be a clown in it  .

reres were allowed. We didn't even have tech to be honest. Someone actually got 2nd with the new RC10 4wd, which is impressive considering he was up against much better cars.

Y2K Entry (any rear motor 2wd buggy from 2000 onward)
Gforce Genova - Masami Replica (I bought this kit in Japan while on vacation)

Chassis: I did nothing to this car's chassis everything other than suspension settings and diff oil is straight from the kit box. It even still has plastic shocks because my Ultima stole the upgrade shocks that were meant for this car. Body was painted by Dominator Airbrushing to be a replica of Masami Hirosaka's livery. Tires are Kyosho soft ribs up front and Schumacher Block CAT in yellow compound stretched onto 2.2 wheels in the rear.

Electronics: Sanwa Servo (i forget the model, it's a bit on the slow side though), XR10 esc with Fantom Icon V2 17.5 motor. New Wave 6400mah shorty pack lipo, only charged to 8.4v/

This car had the most growth over the weekend. It was the last car I really tinkered with during practice and it started out with several different tires before I decided to just go with what I was running on the JRX-Pro. At the beginning I had a lot of issue with the car pushing excessively. Ended up using a heavier battery and moving it to a centered position. Also after the first heat I decided to change the rear oil to 25wt and front to 32.5wt (it's what I had) and also leaned the shocks in more. This helped immensely and the car was way more predictable. Ended up seeding 5th in the B main. Really hit its stride in the main. took down 2nd, this was not without it's issues though because I took down 2nd with 13 laps at 4:59.927. I should have beat the buzzer, so what happened? On what should have been my Lap 14 I was attempting to get out of some lapped traffic went too aggressive on the wall jump and landed nose down and because one of my battery leads didn't have enough slack it actually ripped the solder joint right off of the ESC. Either way still ended up in 2nd but would have been nice to not have been a lap down from the leader. notice that the lead is missing in the body off shot I haven't had time to resolder it yet.

How often did you cut the comm? A lot of the vintage race guys are going brushed 27 turn on lipo.

Are you running reduced rear antiquat?

Oh yeah, I had a washer under the rear suspension mount for zero anitsquat.

The motor was 177 degrees with a 21 tooth pinion after the first qualifier. So I checked the brushes to see their condition to make sure they would last the rest of the event, and I cleaned out the motor with motor spray to see how much dirt was getting into the motor, oil the bushings and put it back in with a 20 tooth pinion to lower temps. No comm cuttting. That motor is a non-rebuildable motor anyway, and I don't have a comm lathe.

Sounds like a Sunday at the track back in '92!
Hope you're doin' something fun.
