Replacing foam rubber on steering wheel of transmitter

I have an Airtronics CS2P radio and the foam rubber on the transmitter steering wheel has dried out and is going to start falling apart soon. Has anyone replaced this material before and what did you use? It is currently some kind of foam material but I suppose some kind of rubber would be ok too. I'm not really trying to "restore" it. I simply want to make it functional.

airtronics sells foams for replacements still, call them, they charged me like 6 bucks a year ago

It's a tight fit and a bit tough to get on (hint - use Windex), but I've always liked the feel of it. It's still in good shape after 15 or so years.

The Traxxas radios are OK but this is by far the worst thing about them in my opinion. Too spongy for me...

The kimbrough ones are bomb-proof. I quit using them for racing though, sometimes your fingers get all wrapped up because of the finger notches.

When I first saw that post I thought "OH that would be great for racing" but I think you may be right. I can see it causing some problems for racing feel.

I do however think it would be ok for what I'm looking for on this radio just to bash with.

some of the local dirt oval guys around here just use foam tire donuts and glue them on. i have seen some guys leave them large and untrued, some true them down to a personal preference. some even use old rears that still have the traction grooves in them, thoes look cool.

I recently bought an adaptor for my old KO radio to take a Tamiya wheel,dont know if anything is available for Airtronics though.
