I Need help with my transmission
Hello,
I am 13 years old and have a couple of RC 10T's that are almost twice as old as me and I enjoy driving them. But I keep destroying the idler gear out of the transmission. I have loosened the slipper clutch so that way it is putting less stress on the transmission but in the process I keep melting the spur gears. I am running old transmissions that still have bushings. I am looking for new transmissions and/or parts to upgrade the transmission. Can you point me to some links for some transmissions and or transmissions parts?
Thanks, Darren

Re: I Need help with my transmission
I'm assuming your running the stealth Tranny, you want to upgrade to Ball bearings , rebuild the ball diffs and try to set the slipper correctly, not to tight as it will surely toast your idler. proper settings should at least slip before it engages. common causes of that is improper slipper settings and sudden power/stop (breaking), with big wheels it will surely put a lot of stress on your tranny. There was a tranny mod for it that will tame it to a 2:65 ratio(RPM), but that was discontinued awhile back.
you may check this thread if you want to use a steel idler gear for a RC10GT by RRP. I bought mine at ebay.

Also pay close attention to the gear teeth on the top shaft. If they are worn it will continue to eat idlers no matter what.

Re: I Need help with my transmission
I have now ordered the steel idler gear, I also got an aluminum spur gear. Now I am trying to locate the ball bearing sets for the transmission. I have looked at the gear on the top shaft and it looks brand new.
Thank you for the help, I am sure I will have lots more questions.

Re: I Need help with my transmission
My Dad has owned gold buggies and gold trucks also. He has now got me interested into rc10T's. Recently I went to a local town that had a rc car race and took my rc10t we got there and found out it was a traxxas sponsored event, but they let me run my 10t with all the Traxxas slashes. My 10t had close to the same top speed but way better handling I ended up winning most of my heats.

In my experience, the two biggest things that can lead to idler gear failure are a loose diff and bad bearings. Make sure your diff and bearings are both slop-free to ensure a good mesh.
Also, how big and heavy are your tires?

Re: I Need help with my transmission
Thanks for the help I already have ordered a set of bearings, I am just waiting for them to show up. My tires are 2x2.2" and I haven't weighed them so I don't know the weight of them.
Re: I Need help with my transmission
As long as they're not meaty monster truck tires that shouldn't be the problem.
