transmission question
transmission question
I have an older rc10, appears to have an aftermarket graphite chassis, older 6 gears trans. My question is about the idler, is there a steel one (pair) available? Also, what is the pitch on this gear? It has 22 teeth, seems to be around 36P or .7mod using a formula for pitch I found on the web. I would think it is not 48p, teeth are way too large for that but I saw a recent thread on here talking about a 48p idler. any help?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: transmission question
no one makes anything for the 6 gear anymore...... aftermarket anyway. a couple of them did make metal idler gears. i think raceway mfg. was one. good luck finding a pair of them.
the stock gears in a 6 gear were 32 pitch. i haven't looked in awhile, but tower hobbies might still have the black associated ones if you need them.

Re: transmission question
Thanks, tower (and ebay) have the plastic ones. When I cracked open the trans I was surprised that most of the gears were steel, steel idlers would complete it. But if they are not to be had then so be it.
Re: transmission question
The combo of metal and steel produced a smoother tranny, which was imperative with the old 6-gears. The metal idlers were hot, back in the day, for about an hour.
First time I ever saw delrin used on an RC was on machined idlers, they were pretty trick.

Re: transmission question
If it's got white idlers put some new black ones in it makes the transmission as free as a stealth apart from the diff action. They changed the tooth profile it seems.
Re: transmission question
make sure you remove the felt seals and plastic retainer from around the outdrives. put a bearing(same as b4 bearing) in the gear case around the outdrives. this is the biggest improvmest. it keeps everything from wobling and eating idlers.
