DIY 6 cell battery packs: loose NiMh sourcing?

Post by TRX-1-3 »

Howdy,

Anybody got a bead on loose NiMh cells, hell, NiCd's for that matter.....? I'm thinking Dean's battery bars, some 12 ga, shrink wrap and sermos connectors. Right? Yeah. Need to keep the width to fit the battery cups though. Offset "L" tabs for +/-. Keep the wires on top instead of soldered directly to the battery ends. Am I making any sense? Maybe a thread already exists for this?

Hey thanks,

Mark
Hope you're doin' something fun.

There are a bunch of websites that sell loose cells. I've used battery space.com before. You can the cells with tabs welded on it makes assembly a cake walk with little risk of cell damage.

They don't show them on the web site but I believe I've seen 4 packs of loose sub C cells at harbor freight for like 9 and some change?

Bought a pack of 15 Nicads for a drill on ebay. I saw some NiMH as well.

btw just a warning that RC-spec nickel cells are built for fast charge

cheap generic cells meant for power tools are usually slow charge (12-15hrs @ 0.1C) only

I have bought blingy goldchrome subCs from Tandy RadioShack before,
packed them up into a neat hump then thought I'd give them a gentle
1A charge.... before long they're hissin' & popping

Does same when trying to drain them under 5mins too :|
