Build a brushless buggy on a GT chassis?

Called Associated, and yeah, the SC1200 can't handle that voltage. Oh well, I should think with the gearing I can throw at a 550 can on a < 4Lb chassis, this thing should be plenty fast on 3S. I'd like to see 70 MPH out of it.

Motor & ESC are here! Unfortunately, I forgot that all of my 32P pinions were 3mm shaft, so a 24T is en route. I also forgot that I'd broken my 1/8" end mill a couple months ago, which is a $40 mill, so I just ordered the Dynotech plate for this round.

Moved the servo over 13/64" to make room for the ESC, and the receiver will go ahead of the ESC. If I like the way it balances with a transversely mounted battery, I'll leave it alone. If not, I'll reconfigure.



Also went back through and replaced all the rod ends with RPM stuff, with black on camber links and white on steering parts.

Wasn't there another company that made a blue aluminum chassis for the RC10 early in it's existence? This photo really brings it to mind, but I can't seem to place my finger on it. Maybe it was a different car entirely. Either way, this buggy looks older than it really is which I think is really cool.

Well, I got impatient and managed to turn up a 1/8 end mill, so whipped up a plate and punched out the 3mm gear to 5mm. Temporary on the gear, but it'll get me through the weekend (maybe....)





Definitely needs taller gearing, though.

Personally I would ditch the metal spur gear and go plastic. Plasric spurs go from 52 to 66 teeth for the gt/nds.

The buggy looks great. Have you driven it yet? Any ideas for a body?

We'll see how it does with the 24T I have coming. I think I can get up to 28T in 32P. If it's still not enough, I'll go to mod. 1 and run a 48T Losi steel spur with whatever size pinion I deem necessary.

Have you driven it yet?

Only in the garage. Nothing but wheelspin on concrete.

Any ideas for a body?

Not really. I was hoping to get some opinions on that.

Well, I stuck truck tires on it to see if that would help, but it's still like driving on oil. The smallest blip of the throttle makes it spin out, just like my .32 powered off-road GT.

And boy it it noisy when you have steel-on-steel gears with rigid aluminum mounting to an aluminum pan! The nitros probably have similar gear noise, just can't detect it over the exhaust.

Think I'll fit this thing with a 52T steel spur and a 28T pinion, and run SCT tires on the rear to keep the truck tire height with buggy tire width.

Any suggestions on a high traction 2.2" SCT tire?

Keep in mind that 550 4 pole motor is a torque monster. I have one in my 4wd SC truck, and on a standard 2s lipo can light up all 4 tires on demand. I am geared 14/47 I couldnt imagine how fast/uncontrollable my truck would be with a 3s lipo in it.

Well, I threw 1/8 rear buggy wheels on with some 2.2 fronts. Definitely helped with traction, but I should have tightened up the diff. Outdrives were smokin' hot, and it cut the center out of the diff gear. Metal gear en route, will report back in a few days.

Well, 'bout as done as it's gonna get. Definitely a competitor for a "strangest RC10 buggy" contest, if such a thing existed. It's pure AE except for the RRP gears, TRX hub adapters and OFNA rear wheels.

Ended up with a 24T pinion and 62T spur; It's pretty much uncontrollable on 3S. And yes, I was lazy about painting, knowing that this body will be destroyed in short order.
