Mr Gut's 870C Project

Post by sludgeguts »

I enjoyed tidying up my YZ10 94. Probably one of the nicest buggies I've worked on so far and I've been hankering for another vintage Yoke project since completing the YZ10. I've always liked the look of the 870c so that's what I was going to go for. Took a bit of time but I've finally found one that suits my needs.

So what have I bought then? A rough but largely original 870c. Not been used for many years by the looks of it but under all the dirt she looks pretty straight. It'll need a few bits replacing or repairing but looks like it'll come up well with a bit of work. On to the pictures:

Planning to start on this one in the next couple of days and will update as I go along.

Great looking car to start with! I love these things. I have a couple of YZ10's in the pipe that need to be finished as well.

Looking forward to this one Mark, i love the 870c, especially with a Masami lurid green paint job. I think i have a few NIP bits for the 870c, not much, just a few bits that landed in package deal, ill have to check see if there is anything that can help you out mate.

Cheers Lee. In other news, I had a bit of free time this afternoon so I decided to start stripping the car down. Lots of old servo tape stuck to the chassis and some clown decided it would be a great idea to glue the steering servo down. Lovely.

That'll be fun to remove. Best break out the thinners then

Acetone mate, breaks down CA fast, at least, that looks like CA. then a good hard wet sand with fine paper. ah, you got me looking at 870c's now.....must resist

Forgot about acetone. I shall purchase some of that tomorrow. I need to remove some glued tyres from a set of rims so need to get some anyway.

Forget about acetone. Not nice stuff to use indoors.

If you can get some goo gone...safer, pleasant citrus smell and works quickly.

Hi Lee. Thanks for looking mate. I'd be interested in anything you've got really so all is of interest. I've got a complete bodyset winging it's way to me but another undertray can't hurt an the other bits will come in handy. I'll p.m you later. :D

Thanks for the glue removal tips. I've managed to remove the worst with an acetone free nail varnish remover and a stiff brush. There is a white mark left where the glue once was but that will be hidden by the steering servo. So far so good.

In other news, bearing set has been ordered. A couple of the old ones have had it so I may as well go through the whole car and replace the lot.
