To bearing or not to bearing?

Just seeing what some of you guys are doing with you shelfers. As anal as I am about building these cars up, I have had bearings and installed them in my previous cars. Now as I move on to a few more projects I find I am out of bearings. I find I need about $50 of them to sit on a shelf when I have jars full of oilite bushings. Maybe it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing there are bearings in there.

Personally I always use bearings- the bushings can, over time stain the nylon in the case of RC10's
and you can still get them for about a buck a bearing, $14 per car isn't bad-

My 2 cents: The RC10 and most other cars had different part numbers when they came with, or without bearings, batteries or bodies.

On my New Built shelfer RC12L, one of my favorite things about the car is the long minute it takes for the front wheel to stop spinning when I flick the wheel with my fingernail. Its out of balance and it always stops in the same place. One day I will balance it just see how long it will really last. Its the kit bearing from 1986/87.

Who do you use for a bearing source? I was looking on Tower and just need the flanged rear carrier bearings and front wheel bearings. 3 sets.

There are others out too. You do need to know the number of bearings and the sizes for the particle car you are working on as different versions of the RC10 have a few bearings that are different. Example : 1/4" vs 3/16" axles.

I have had this same debate with myself but for the price Avidrc sells them for at $1 a bearing, I figure I can spend the money and have that warm fuzzy feeling.

Remember in the movie Fletch when he is "inspecting" the airplane and says "It's all ball bearings these days!". IMHO don't mess with bushings.

Thanks for the links. I did not think about checking for sets as I have many new transmissions built already with bearings. I just need the rears and fronts but with these prices I can get a set, chuck the transmission ones and still be ahead.

these days, when you can get them for $1.00 each, the only reason to put bushings in something is if you're restoring a vehicle and that's what it's supposed to have.

Yeah, I see that point. The problem is that I have sort of built these up from new parts and they don't have a lineage or boxes really to denote a 6010 or 60??. So bearings it is. So does anyone want a crap pot of oilite bushings? Sorry, wrong section.
