Charge rate 1800 Nicd pack
Charge rate 1800 Nicd pack
I just recently decided to dust off my B2/3 after several years. I am building a backyard track.
Anyway I have a multiplex charger that you have to specify the charge rate for.
I bought a new 1800 nicd pack and I don't remember what charge rates I used to use.
Any thoughts on this? Also what discharge rate should I be using to cycle them?
Thanks!

Ideally, charge as slow as you can. But the Nicads are tough. You can fast charge them if you want but they like a slow charge if you have the time. A fast charge won't hurt.
It is an autopeak charger, right? So it will go to trickle charge when full.

yeah, it is an auto peak, and I think it goes to trickle when it's done.
I have been charging it at 1.5 amps, but i think i used to charge nicad batteries at 2.5 or 3
amps back when I was racing.

That sounds right. Charging at 3 amps is just fine too. Just charge Nicads as slow as you can or have time for.
Also, you probally remeber, to fully discharge them before charging. Again with the discharge, slow and easy is nice but not required.
I still use a couple automotive light bulbs soldered to a wire and deans plug to discharge.

I still have a couple small round headlights (I think they were for a lawnmower from the local Agway) with homemade coathanger stands... those worked great on race nights for quick discharging.badattitude wrote:I still use a couple automotive light bulbs soldered to a wire and deans plug to discharge.

The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.
