LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
I might be beating a dead horse here, but I want to make sure before I go and blow something up.
I just purchased a Venom 7.4 2S 40c 5000 mAh with a IMax B6 battery charger.
From what I have read, I can charge it using 5amps. Is this correct, and what rate can it be discharged at?
Thanks in advance.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
5 amps yes...its what is recommended for a charge rate/amperage. I don't discharge without the use of a trigger on my radio so I can't help there

Thanks!
I will be using the trigger soon, but for the break in, I want to cycle it using the charger.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
I've seen guys running those quite a bit and it's as strong as about anything out there(although they all run about the same IMHO). I'm not familiar with that charger specifically, but most discharge rates are extremely low compared to what a motor draws so I think you might be doing that unnecessarily. I don't think it will be detrimental to the pack though. If this is your first lipo, get ready to fall in love...

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
Feel kinda dumb now. Read through the steps again, it says the charge rate is on the battery label. I take a look at my battery label, and it indicates a charge rate of 3c 15Amps. I am still only charging it at 5amps, but now I am a bit confused.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
The old rule of thumb(and still with older packs)is 1c. 5000mah pack =5amp, 4000mah =4amp...etc
Newer packs are able to take a higher charge rate for faster charging. If the manufacturer says it's ok then I'm sure it is. Comes in handy if you want to run one pack all day.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
After 40 minutes it says it is full, but only registered 1400mAh.
Going to discharge and try again.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
It prolly came 60-70% charged. I would run it and see what happens. It will only show how many mah went in, not a total.soniccj5 wrote:After 40 minutes it says it is full, but only registered 1400mAh.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
that is because a lipo is never stored empty. it is stored at about 2/3 capacity "3500mah" for a 5000.
good rule of thumb here; the voltage should never go below 3.1 per cell "so a 2s would be 6.2".. nor should it exceed 4.2 per cell "2s 8.4"
your b6 charger will always keep your packs safe, so no need to worry too much about charging voltages
use caution when discharging a pack, the charger will get extremely hot

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
New battery + 10.5 Brushless + small driveway = Not enough room.
Good to know my charger will not ruin it. BUt in the discharge section it only lets me select 6.0 V as a discharge, not 6.2. I will just monitor it.
Thanks!

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
I wouldn't use a discharger on LiPo, just don't store it with a full charge.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
The charger I bought has a storage setting. Figured I would use it until I get a chance to hit the track.

Re: LiPo Charhing/Discharge Rate
Thanks for all the replies. It really helped in my venture into LiPo.
Now after previewing what it can do in my driveway, I can not wait to hit the track .
