i am trying to help a friend out. He picked up 2 rc10s on his local CL last night. One appears to be the CF rc10. It has the graphite chassis with the AE etching and andys arms.
what i am stuck on is the tranny.
It looks like the big 6 gear housing but has 2 screws in the spur gear that i think is the stealth spur set up.
Is that possible?
the car on the left is the one i am questioning.
And no, you can't bolt a spur gear to a 6-gear tranny. The differential is out the outside. The car will essentially be a solid axle and probably won't turn very well. Not sure why someone would do that intentionally.
The rear shocks on the graphite also belong on the gold tub and vise versa.

the other pic i had on it from the CL listing showed 2 screws in the spur. Could they have installed the stealth gearing in that case then?
I took the rc10 i had apart with the 6 gear tranny and i agree, i am not sure how it would work since they are split inside..
The diff pinning kits only use set screws in the diff plates to lock the diff rings to the diff hubs, and nothing else. It would still have balls in it and be spinning free like a diff. It wouldn't look any different than a standard 6-gear diff other than the tiny 4-40 set screw in the outer diff hub.

well he said the tranny moves. Just not sure if it has diff action. He is out.
I wonder if some one just stuffed a b3 spur set up on it to lock it in.
if i had to guess, someone drilled 2 holes in the inner hub and ran screws through the gear and into it. no matter what they did or how they did it, it's not right.

guess i will see next week. These are headed my way.. WOOT WOOT
ok, an update.
The screws are set into the inner pad. The spring is seated against the inner pad in the middle of the spur gear. It obviously is not right but did allow the tranny to have diff action.
On another note, these are now mine. My friend sent these to me as a xmas gift! I want to make one into a runner, just not sure which one.. more to come
thanks

I also have an 87 and 90 for the RC10T but what other options are out there for the original stealth setup? Will the TC3 stuff work? Seems like a lot of options...
Like this for example?...

Any of the gears from the kimbrough gears from their website would work if your running the original slipper...
Any of the gears from the kimbrough site for B4 style dual pad slipper clutch...
Both my stock 81 tooth 48p spur gears got messed up years ago so I have a Robinson racing white machined thing on there that I bought at a hobby shop ages ago. I cant get much smaller than a 17t pinion on there because the motor is actually touching...
is there a how to on this Site on installing a stealth tranny to replace the standard 6 gear tranny?
All I know is that I need to drill my chassis to suit the stealth, other than that,...

get a piece of cardboard and make a template, testfit the cardboard, then use it to drill the holes. This way you dont mess up the car, and if you make a mistake, well its only cardboard :)
I know the 6 gear trans has a much different pitch than my stealth trans. Can someone please tell me what the original tooth count and pitch should be for the pinion and spur gears? Also where can I buy snap ring pliers small enough for the tiny...
What year did AE use the black idler gear for the 1st generation grarbox? I know the first kits came out with the white gear but I do not know when they stopped using it.. Anyone? :)

the black idler gears were on the rc10 graphite released in 1989. the tq10 didnt have the updated idlers when it was released. they must be good gears because mine still look new and my car is still being raced today
