Most influential;
The cars I see here on this site.

Must haves;
The above mentioned! (if you here something go-bump-in-the-night, it's just me dropping one of your Tecnacrafts as I make my get-away with your stash) :wink:

For real, this site, these forums, are an influence and inspiration to many (including myself) currently trying to get back into, what is now, vintage rc.
Thank you ALL, for sharing your knowledge and showing those beautiful builds. :D

I couldn't really name 10, but the following cars were very influential when they emerged.

-Tamiya Grasshopper: Probably the first readily-accessible, affordable, and high-performing entry-level buggy at the time.

-Tamiya Frog: All the millions who bought Grasshoppers bought his as their second car, for many others seeking a raceable buggy, it was their first. Huge issues with the diff but with all the available hopups, it was a great buggy for its era.

-RC-10: The first serious racing 2WD car. Options and upgrades were limitless. I remember for many years, the RC-10 was the car to beat--in the 2WD class, anyway.

-Kyosho Optima: The original Optima revolutionized 4WD racing. Probably for the first time, a well-tuned suspension could outperform the car-to-beat (RC-10) on off-road tracks, even though the power-to-weight ratio was less. Perhaps the Optima's dominance resulted in greater segregation of the 2WD and 4WD classes, and the need for these classes to race independently.

-Kyosho Ultima: This car hit the scene right as I was leaving it. :) What I remember at the time that made this car influential (to me anyway) was that it was the first 2WD buggy to come along that was a serious threat to the RC-10.

I dug through some old boxes and found a Tower Hobbies catalog from 1986 I believe. Who else remembers that Optimas took 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10th place in the ROAR Nats back in the day? That ought to be pretty influential, at least with regards to historical significance. :D

I'm keeping my list to 1/10 scale electric since that's what I know about. I know the Burns/Inferno and 12L and others were very influential machines and I remember reading about them, but I never have been involved in those classes to know what's what.

1. Tamiya SRB
2. 6010 RC10
3. Clodbuster. For many reasons. For all the talk of crawlers on these lists, this is the truck that started the whole crawler craze. It also kicked the monster truck craze into high gear long before that. The Big Bear was the first, the Clod was the baddest. Still is.
4. Losi JrxPro SE. Let's not forget what a modern race buggy chassis looks like and where it came from. The Jrx2 could be on this list, but I think the ProSE is a better choice, it was more influential.
5. AE RC10T. The JrxT was before it, but the 10T was way better.

After that there are way too many contenders. To me, each of these vehicles changed the hobby/sport pretty much overnight.

Hate to be that guy bringing up a 2 year old post but found this one when looking for something else and had to give my $.02

This list for me is what I remember as a kid the cars I had that kept me in the hobby and the cars that I wanted to get but could never afford.

Tamiya Bruiser (I remember seeing one at the LHS and was in love ever since)
Tamiya Wild One
Tamiya Clod Buster
Tamiya Monster Beetle
RC10 6010
Tamiya Lunchbox
Kyosho Optima Mid SE
Schumacher Cat
Tamiya Bigwig
Tamiya Wild Willy

As a kid I had 2 RC10s, Lunchbox, Turbo Optima Mid SE and a Bigwig. I would love to build all of these cars on the list from NIB because building a kit reminds me of being a kid and opening up that first car I got on Christmas morning and staying up until 2am trying to put it together. Getting a built car and tearing it down to clean and restore is fun but just doesn't hold that same thrill. Thank goodness for the Tamiya re releases, I know they aren't the same but close enough and a whole lot more affordable then finding a NIB kit from the 80's, heck I've paid less for my 1986 Toyota 1:1 truck then I would for a NIB Bruiser :lol:
