New DS with transmission question

Post by SiRacer420 »

I picked up a DS the other day and the transmission has me perplexed. There is no slipper at all. I would try to explain it but pictures are always better. This is how it sat on the car. Minus the motor plate obviously.

This is just the gear with this little adapter thing.

It certainly looks like an AE gear. But I've only ever had AE rc cars so I wouldn't know if they all look alike. The top shaft also shorter than my original worlds car. No idea whats going on here. Was this an option or is it just "custom"?

That's the DS Qualifier setup. Different top shaft and slipper eliminator. Car came with foam tires and composite shocks as well, instead of the aluminum body shocks.

Ohhhhhhh snap. Thanks man! This car is waaaay different than anything I've built or rebuilt.

It came (to me) with these shocks and wheels. The shocks feel like aluminum and someone mounted ONE of the Speed Hawgs backwards. I guess at some point it either had the transmission swapped or the wheels and shocks.

I plan to do something with the wheels and hubcaps. The paint is flaking so I guess strip it and repaint them.

Hubcaps are spendy so a repaint is the best route for a runner!
Yeah looks like it was upgraded...or downgraded...at some point
Still a great platform and should be fun!

I'll likely take another stealth transmission out of one of these cars laying around and put it back to "normal". The pan is nice enough that I'd never drive it in the street so it will probably just sit on the shelf. My 2 year old loves it when I drive in the house so it may get some use every now and then.

I really don't like the wheels lol

Almost all on road cars do not run slippers. They don't run the abuse of jumps and such. So they for years have not run one.
