Transmission ID Question (& Intro)

Post by NeonNoodle »

I only very recently discovered this amazing site and am overwhelmed by all the info and interest in these vintage R/C vehicles that is here. I've been into in R/C for about 25 years but had been "out of the loop" since about the mid 1990's. My interest recently became resparked because my kid displayed a good deal of interest in one of my old cars that I had dug out of the closet. This was one of 3 RC-10's that I have that I now want to get back on the road and this site has given me the inspiration to do so. In the meantime, I got her an RTR (Traxxas Slash) and she seems hooked...

Anyway, in trying to survey what I have and which of the vintage cars to rejuvenate first, I came up with my first question. I cannot seem to identify this transmission that is on an RC-10 graphite. I've searched here and done a lot of searching on the Internet and can't find anything that looks exactly like this. It doesn't look like any of the AE factory units (at least that I am familiar with), and the shape is different from the RPM 2.65 Stealth Conversion too. Anyone know what this is?

I would agree, A&L tranny, looks like RPM rear arm mounts, but those arms look like machined delrin maybe? A wider angle shot would be nice :)

Thanks for the replies guys. That does indeed look like what this transmission is. I bought this roller as it sits years ago, so because I did not build it (and had only messed with stock RC-10's), I was unable to identify many of the parts on this car.

Which leads to the arms that JK Racing commented on. I wasn't sure what they were either as they are unmarked. The rear arm mounts are RPM as you pointed out. I also think, now that you mention it that the front and rear arms do look like machined delrin. If that is the case, would these have been custom, or were these commercially available? Here are some more pics of the front and rear arms. And a shot of the whole chassis.

Love those arms, look custom to me, but they could be aftermarket (local shop or something making them BITD).

Car looks good, get it cleaned up and runnin'!!

That also has a Robinson Racing Products steering control system (the black hubs, carriers and kingpins).

That's the plan!

Incidentally, these arms substantially increase the track of this car front and rear. Here are comparison shots against an early 1990's RC10 CE with the factory wide-track front suspension...

Which leads to think it was a truck at some point and not a buggy. Nice car with nice parts, get it run as said above!
