Kyosho Nitro Blizzard
In 1998 Kyosho released a new version of their 1/12 tracked vehicle, the Nitro Blizzard. Originally introduced in 1982 and preceded by four iterations of advancing refinement the Nitro Blizzard would be the first to receive a gas powerplant. Sharing only its tracks with the first Kyosho Blizzard the Nitro rode on an entirely new stamped aluminum chassis with aluminum side plates to hold the torsion spring suspension. A pinion and spur primary drive connected to the two-speed transmission that utilized Kyosho's QRC (Quick Reversing Clutch) technology. A throttle servo actuated linkage slid a clutch disk between two gearsets (forward and reverse) allowing the 'Blizzard to switch between forward and reverse with a simple push or pull of the transmitters trigger. High gear in the two-speed transmission was engaged by an adjustable centrifugal clutch allowing the speed at which gear changes occurred to be tuned as desired. Steering was handled by two linkages running from the rear mounted servo to a pair of disk brakes, one mounted on each side of the plastic drive axle, itself containing a bevel gear differential inside a sealed gearcase. As the servo rotated the linkage would apply the brake to that side, slowing the track and allowing the vehicle to turn. Those rubberized plastic tracks were supported by ten aluminized plastic wheels, four road wheels and one chain tension adjusted drive wheel per side. A two-piece clear lexan Snow Cat style body covered the fan cooled, pull start GS-11X engine, muffler and flip top fuel tank in the almost ready to run kit, sold less radio:

Re: Kyosho Nitro Blizzard
Thanks ya'll. Awesome kit indeed, a nitro engine tearing across some fresh powder, that's the sound of fun... but imagine a group of these cranking around a snow-covered off-road track.
Blizzard EV comes in a couple days, but the DF-300 is post Y2K so that one'll have to remain a memory.
