Kyosho OT16 Knuckles

Ok, for your information ive been upgrading the OT16 knuckle design as ive lost quite a few races due to king pins coming out which cost me development time on other items and final places so have had help from Niki with 3d drawings and have designed this.

I worked out the amount of vibration caused by the driveshafts made the standard king pins vibrate out, so thought outside the box and added a hex nut hole within the knuckles so placing a slim narrow nyloc nut after youve fitted bearings, then get the uj in and gently screw in to hold into place and its a snug but perfect fit even when using the newer varient mip style kyosho ujs. Ive also lengthend the veins or struts on top and bottom as this gets rid of flex and i know flex may be helpful if using 3D shapeways plastics but would advise using a kimbrough medium servo saver as that should protect the arms from damage. Also youll need to dremel or ream the bearing holes fractionally to get an easy bearing fit, but is not hard to do.

Im using X factory low profile M3 nyloc nuts and this should stop them coming out.

I hope you guys like and if your after a pair the price is very affordable and nowhere near the cost of whats on ebay for an original.

Ok i admit i didnt think my design correctly and youll need to cut the to fit correctly on the underneath spline on both sides to get a fluid steering throw but flex is still minimal so back to the drawing board. However next weekend is a proper test as im attending and event so lets see how well they perform

I've had my version of these hubs on Shapeways for a while now. I could have easily modified them.

Just chuck them and go for ZX6 c hubs, you'll never look back.

Cheap, easily available, much stronger than any of the older knuckles, even the ZX-5 ones pale in comparison. You can remove the CVDs without disassembling the knuckle.
Had to make my own arm which is a combination of ZX-6 and ZX arm, shorter than ZX arm, but 2mm longer than ZX-6 arm. Or you can use ZX6 arm but add spacers inside, be warned the arm is weaker because of this.

I find my car handles better with these and even drifts much better. Of yeah you will need 73mm LA257 CVDs.

I prefer team line better, its got a lot to do with me using this car for longer than anyone else, it feels right. However after seeing your car go it looked pretty tastey.

Welshy. In the past I was using zx5 c hubs and knuckles and they are just as bad as ot16. The older design has outlived its usefulness . I broke at least 10 zx5 c hubs and a bit lesser knuckles and this seems to happen everytime i go to the track. I have just changed to zx5sp knuckles and hubs and i can say these are light years ahead of ot16. No breakages. You might not like the ackermann though.

Pic shows my optima mid and lazer. Opt mid uses the zx5sp c hubs and lazer uses rtr zx5. Note the difference in angle .
On another note i am pretty shocked that all forums seem to be "dying". It seems all the traffic has gone to facebook.
So i am gonna make a comeback over here and oople. Hopefully others will come back.

Yes the angle is way off for it, but would mean a redesign maybe on the steering plate. Does look nice.

Yes im partly responsible for not being on both sites, have had so much going on that havent had time to even race which isnt good but at least ive still got my drives. My next event is 4th september and Alex is possibly taking me but im only doing 2wd as ive got to test a couple of proto bits. Still Lazers been prepared and is ready to go.

In your opinion..having a greater angle difference is better right ? I see modern cars like the yz4 have a great difference in angle between left and right wheel on full lock.

I like a bit more on the other side as well, its fractionally less if turning left on the right side of the car compared to the standard, mind you ive milled a section out of the wishbone to get more in this instance on the left when turning left. However you race on dust dirt tracks and may be beneficial doing what youve done and if it works and still feels great game on.

you guys are talking about ackermann. it has more to do with your steering rack and inner drag link location than the hubs, of course the hubs allow for greater angular rotation.

Think thats what Rama meant as his does give more angular rotation.
