Going brushless/restoring choice - Kyosho or RC10T?

I have always been sentimentally partial to TA but recently came across an interesting ultima - http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=39121

I have an rc10t with a stealth trans and the kyosho, one will get built up with modern electronics and due to space and a baby on the way I will have to sell the other...

I have built up 10s a few times in the past and had to sell them for financial reasons and know the stealth will handle it, things are more stable now but I haven't really worked with vintage kyosho much and am curious if this will be more costly in the long run.

Any advice or insight is appreciated!

RC10T! The only hitch to that is new original bodies and other certain white parts are hard to come by. I suppose if you don't mind retrofitting or using a repro body and using black parts they aren't as much as an issue. I personally can't speak for Kyosho since I've never been into them as much as Associated.

That is what I am leaning toward, the kyosho showed up with so many extra goodies that it's hard not to be tempted

The Ultima is a dirt oval chassis. Really only designed to turn left over and over. Not something you'd want to try and clear a triple jump with.

The 10T is an offroad truck. You can set it up for ovals but stock it's more at home on an offroad track.


The 10T's trans would also handle a brushless better. The Ultima would make the nicer period correct restoration.

This is just for fun and unfortunately there are no tracks within an hour of me... I should have been clearer, I am more concerned about how the kyosho will hold up with modern gear compared to the stealth in the 10 which I know is tough enough and smooth.

will the oval set up have a major effect on parking lot driving? more simply will my right turns be noticeably affected?

It will cost a fortune to set that kyosho ultima rb trans up to handle motors like a stealth trans can....

The Ultima chassis can be set up to turn right just fine. The chassis is made so that it can be set up with a bias for making left turns, but it can be set up neutral too. You'd need to relocate the battery and electronics to center the weight.


The 10T is still the better car for brushless parking lot bashing though.

Perfect! I'm glad to hear the stealth is a better candidate to be honest - no offense to the kyosho guys but TA is just a different kind of quality...

Never been a fan of oval racing, so my choice would be the RC10T. Plus, parts for the 10T are sooooo much easier to find.
