Older Stealth question and check out my new runner

Post by Fred19K »

I got a decent B stamped RC10 off Ebay and am going to use it as my new runner. I was thinking about modifying it with the modern Stealth slipper, but the originals work fine. What is a good material to replace the felt dust seal with (discontinued part 6566)? I have one in very good condition as well as the one that came with the car that is in poor shape. I never really liked them because they fall apart and soak up water.

Almost always get turned off by Ebay listings that have a butchered chassis, but whoever did this one did a professional job on the lightening mod. Rebuilt the Stealth and ran her around today; I like! Got all the parts I need to convert to modern wheels and CVDs, but have not put them on yet. Guessing it was the first transmission rebuild the thing has had in 20+ years because of lack of any sort of grease on the diff or thrust bearing and lots of black gear dust. The brushed motor it came with is stupid fast was probably very spendy back in the day.

I run without the felt, and have never had a problem.

You can make your own out of different types of foam using a hole punch or the T2 neoprene gasket is still available an can be used.. Yeah some will never need it though others would be forever replacing spurs without one it just depends on what type of surface you run on....

Yep, we run on clay, hence the lack of need for it.

I'm a pure basher and run a lot on dusty gravel surfaces thus desire the extra protection.

I've found closed cell foam packing can do the trick for making your own gaskets. Just keep your eyes open in the boxes you purchase, usually I'll find electronics packed with nice foam sheets. My track is sandy so any opening to the gears results in mayhem.
