Help Identify Vintage Kyosho Buggy
Trying to identify a vintage kyosho buggy. Is this a turbo scorpion or just a scorpion. The wing looks like a turbo, but other part look like a original scorpion.

That's the uber-rare Thumbnail Scorpion. It's 1/100 scale.

Re: Help Identify Vintage Kyosho Buggy
Judging by the bumper, wing & mount, 10 mm red shocks and the straight vertical (alloy) part of the rollcage, I´d say, it´s a Turbo with std. roof.
Rear shocks are mounted on the back side of the upper mount - can´t imagine it does any magic for the suspension.
If you could get a picture a bit more from the side, it would be easier to determine.

Re: Help Identify Vintage Kyosho Buggy
Thanks Dennis, I asked the seller for more pictures. I bought a kyosho advance from this guy and he asked for my help identifying it the buggy. As it turns out I am looking for a turbo scorpion, I just can't tell from that picture. The rear wing is definitely a turbo scorpion. Not sure about the body, do you know if the turbo body is interchangeable with a original scorpion frame? I will post additional pics if I get them.

Have him check for a differential...that should tell the story

Turbo came with a bent aluminum roll bar. Trans case looks like a Turbo's but it also looks like it's a got a cast aluminum, Kyosho labeled, trans cover instead if the resistor holder that the Turbo's came with. It also looks like it's a got a black tub (which doesn't necessarily mean it's not a Turbo but the great majority were white tubs) and chrome wheels.DennisM wrote:Judging by the bumper, wing & mount, 10 mm red shocks and the straight vertical (alloy) part of the rollcage, I´d say, it´s a Turbo with std. roof.

I'm sticking with my original assessment that it's a pieced together car with several parts from different generations plus some aftermarket parts.

I´ve been looking at Turbo pictures for an hour, and can´t seem to find the red line in it. There must have been a lot of running changes.Phin wrote:I'm sticking with my original assessment that it's a pieced together car with several parts from different generations plus some aftermarket parts.
But the cast transmission top cover doesn´t exactly support my idea

The majority of my std. Scorpion´s, have differentials. My Beetle´s, on the other hand, doesn´t.gomachv wrote:Have him check for a differential...that should tell the story
Most of mine are from Germany, could have been sold through Graupner.

Re: Help Identify Vintage Kyosho Buggy
Just noticed from the side pic that the transmission case is not a Turbo's...it's only got 2 mounting holes for the rear shock tower.
Except for the wing mount, bumper, and rear tires that's a very nice standard Scorpion. The wheels are so shiny I can't tell if they're chrome or aluminum?

Re: Help Identify Vintage Kyosho Buggy
Phil, thanks for your help that turbo wing mount threw me off. I have turbo scorpion body being painted and need a chassis for it, I guess it wouldn't fit this? I may still bid on this because the condition is so good and my othe purchase from this seller was great.
