Yokomo YZ-10 Works Rebuild

Hi,

i bought this Yokomo YZ-10 Works some years ago, now after a few years of hunting for parts, i started the rebuild. Unfortunatly im still missing a few parts which i must have missed so i didnt get that far as i wanted. Anyway i wanted to show my rebuild.

The car is a YZ-10 Works. I think it is a 93 but im not sure, because the (german) manual only says YZ10 Works.

This is the car as i bought it:

Tamiya Dampers as a wing mount, oh well

After cleaning all the parts, sourcing some new ones (screw set, body, wheels, tires, chassis, and a lot more i forgot) i started the build

The polished Chassis, with the sand blasted motor mount (awfull work) and the polished stays.

Good as new, rear axels



This is how far my parts got me today Now im missing the main gear and the thing that holds it (direct hub?). Well maybe one day ill find those

This is a yz10 '94...most f it looks stock to me.

Nice clean up so far. Bead blasting looks good.

I have the main spur gear, but you need this too I think

Great start to your resto, so far it's cleaning up very nicely.

Nice find! I am working on a resto on the exact same chassis myself. The only thing I'm really stuck on is what is the best way to clean up the fiberglass parts. Is Simple Green sufficient, or is there some other trick people have used? Peroxide, etc...?

Well you can try acetone but dont put it in acetone directly, put it in air tight box and let the evaporating gas do the work for you, only put mouth full to the ground of the box. This works best if the parts are full of glue / old sticker filth. But be carefull! I ruined a lazer zx chassis this way, dont leave it in there for too long (max 12-24h). For this rebuild i cleaned the parts with my girlfriends fingernail paint cleaner (acetone free) which works nice, but takes a long time to get it clean. I think water based cleaners arent a good idea, because the chances are (correct me if im wrong) that glasfiber soakes up the water.

lol i still have the alum adaptor and spur gear off my old yz10 if i had of know you need them i would have gave them to ya as i was going to throw them out the other day seeing im not going to build anouther one

I know gt-85 Works wonders, but it is not easy to get outside the UK.

little update:

Today the direct hub ZC-641 and the Robinson spur gear alternative was delivered after a long wait. Unfortunatly the Yokomo Direct Hub doesnt fit and i dont understand how to mount the robinson spur gear or how it should fit. I now do understand that the direct hub i would need is not ZC-641 but ZC-643, well another (expensive) lesson learnd. Atleast i ordered the right bearing set

Now i have 2 questions:

1. What is the ZC-641 good for?
2. How to mount the robinson spur gear / What parts are needed to mount it?

is the belt adaptor mounted to the spur and you need to know how to mount it to the shaft ?

also the adtaptor and spur where sent out and should be there around the 15th

For the RR part you don't use the clutch assembly. That is for the stock Yokomo gear. You can see it in my build here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=32746&start=15. If you want me to disassemble mine, I can do it for you tomorrow and take a couple pics.

Like the build so far. You cleaned it up nicely. Looking to be a nice Yoke.

(edit: forgot to mention that I have the early 870C shaft so that's why I have the nut and spring assembly. That should be the only real difference I think. Shawn)

Thank you for posting the pictures. I think im missing some washers or something like that, because if i mount my robinson racing spur gear like that its rubbing on the motor mount. So i you could take it apart and take some pictures (especially the parts behind the spur gear) that would be really really nice ...

Today i rebuild the 2 diffs with Associated Factory Team Balls. I used 6 of the 3/64 balls instead of the 8 small yokomo balls, works like a charm. Build unfortunatly stopped when i mentioned my driveshafts are diffrent in lenght. Luckily i have some correct ones in my spares collection, i only have to wait until wd40 did its work.
