Works 93 rebuild

Post by vintage racer »

After reading through some other threads about the 93 I decided to get mine ready for the vintage festival being organised by Retro RC here in Australia in June. The inclusion on a classic class for 1991 to 1996 buggies has really got me excited.Usually I would just through in some electrics and go but this time I thought I would do the job properly and learn the buggy at the same time.I have had trouble with the rear belt in the past either stripping or more often turning inside out,not sure why?Heres some pics as I just tore it down.I really like the longated holes to adjust belt tention.I have some Team Suzuki bits stashed away that I plan on fitting.Just not sure on which body this buggy is supposed to have but I am thinking I might use a Pav repop from Mr Lexan.Any advise here would be greatly appreciated especially in the belt/pulley areas.

Just pulled out my parts stash, the pulleys that came from my car are 35 tooth and my new ones are 33 tooth. Can I use these and adjust my belts by moving the bulkhead and motor mount? Can I use 870 belts? and I also found some magnesium bulkheads, would these be better than the nylon ones on the car?Hope someone can give advise.

The nylon bulkheads are most likely from the YR4 (if they are a flexible and black) ditch em. It looks like you have a much tougher white nylon (maybe delrin) on the front, these are pretty decent. Mags F&R will be a nicer option.

Not sure whats going on with the pulleys, the correct pulleys (if memory serves) are 35t. The new pulleys 33t you have are most likely from the Works 94/95, so they aint gonna work.

The 870c used the same pulleys as the works 93 so i think the rear pulley should work, again this is all from memory as I haven't tinkered with the early yokes for a while.

Really nice top deck on that yoke, I got one similar from Germany years ago that was made by Keil. I got it shipped to my Mums place only to find the dog had chewed the package to pieces when it came through the letter box  Never seen one since!

The Pavadis body should fit on the works 93, never tried actually! But as you dont seem to have the weird steering tensioner things (what are they called?) it should go on.

yeah james you need the larger pulley's from 870c era mate, as fakiee said the white bulkhead's are good but i wouldn't use mag buckhead's as they were known for cracking, go alloy as 93 supposed to have. pav body and undertray will fit 93 works with a few cutting tricks :) sure she will turn out a treat :)

The top deck looks like a fibrelyte part as do the shock towers. As per other posts the pulleys were the same for all the 870c/Works cars the 93 came with lightened out drives. Mr lexans body fits and has the cut markings for the torque suspension.

Thanks for the replies, after talking with Gary I decided to use the nylon bulkheads as he told me they will be less likely to crack as this car is going to be a racer,I also loctited all the screws etc for reliability and cut out the rear bulkhead to let rocks and debis out.I used a rear pulley and belt from my 870 project and fitted MR4BC shocks and Team Suzuki hubs and motor mount.Im really liking this buggy.I just have to work out how to fit the tourqe brace as the shaft in my bellcrank isnt long enough and I am also missing the sandwich plate that fits under the front bulkhead cap.I decided to fit a rear swaybar also that I found,it went straight on so Im guessing it was from this buggy. Now I just need a body.Hoping Mr Lexan can help me out.

Thankyou Hyeong and Gary.Ill order some now.Jay just let me know he will be around 2 weeks away from having a some more body sets so it looks like this puppy will definetly be ready for the meeting.
Would anyone out these happen to have a top pulley that would enable me to get rid of the one way?
