RC10 CE shocks and spur gear question
RC10 CE shocks and spur gear question
Did the CE ever come with black shock caps and a black 32P, 52tooth spur gear? Everything else on the car is white and it just doesn't look right. All the pics I've seen have gold caps and white spur. Because this car is near mint I want it to be as correct as possible!
I keep getting snaked on ebay at the last second when I try to buy the gold caps. Anyone want to sell me a set or a white spur? I really need to get into the "for sale" section of this site. I bet there is lots of stuff in there that will make me part with my money!
TIA,
Mike

Late, late CE editions were all black parts minus chassis bits

Re: RC10 CE shocks and spur gear question
being as though your asking about a 32p gear, i'd have to guess it has a 6 gear trans?
the first run of c.e.'s had the 6 gear, and the chassis was only drilled for a 6 gear. it would have the old style gold shock bodies and gold caps, and all of the nylon parts would've been white.
the next version had the 6 gear trans, but the chassis was also drilled for the stealth. it had the new style gold shock bodies with black caps, and all of the nylon parts would've been white.
following that was the version with the stealth trans. other than that, it's the same as the one i just described. but, as this production run went on, they started adding black parts to the kit, starting with the a-arms. eventually, near the end, all of the parts were black.

Re: RC10 CE shocks and spur gear question
Thanks scr8p.
You are correct, it does have the 6 gear. It appears I have the second version with the 6 gear but drilled for the stealth and the black shock caps on new style shocks (which I didn't even notice!
). The rest of the nylon parts are infact white. So, what about the spur, whould it have been white or is the black correct?
I can't believe how great this site is. There is so much info here, i'm sure glad I stumbled upon it! I've been out of the RC hobby for about 15yrs now. I'm just getting back into it but not with new kits, I'm getting hooked on this vintage stuff. I just don't care for the newer, plastic looking stuff. And whats up with all this RTR stuff??? I have more fun building kits than I do driving them!!!
Thanks again!

Re: RC10 CE shocks and spur gear question
the spur is probably a kimbrough if it's black, I don't know many 20 year old cars with the original spur! I worked at a hobby shop for 5 years and I wouldn't even try to sell associated 32pitch gears, the kimbrough ones ran more true and made the diff smoother. I guess I'm just not a perfectionist when it comes to a car being 100% correct unless it's going to sit on a shelf. If I'm going to run it I want it to perform well, plus if you raced, you put what worked on the car or what was available, if you broke an arm and the ones on the shelf were black, well my car would have one black one on it... probably 2 after not too long with my driving

So................You wanna sell me that white 32p gear?
I can't find one anywhere! I even got laughed at at my lhs when I asked if he knew where I could get one.
This is a shelfer. The guy I got it from said it was driven 2 times on carpet in the basement. By the condition its in I don't think he was kidding! MINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and, my 6 gear tranny works fine with 48p spur gears.
I'm using "white Yokomo precision 48P 81 to 85T."
those are slightly thicker than Kimbrough standard spur. and have holes for 6 gear and stealth tranny.
so, you can go to 6 gear and stealth with this Yoke spurs.

Re: RC10 CE shocks and spur gear question
my very first rc10 was a CE. it came with the gold shock caps(also plastic o-rings instead of the rubber o-rings to seal the caps), and the 32 pitch spur on my 6 gear tranny. i also i got the last of the gold tubs with no stealth tranny holes punched in.
