Re: Spur Gear for RC10 CE
If you are looking for an original part for a restoration, ebay is your best bet, but if you are just looking for something to keep an old car running, you have a few options.
I do not know of a 54t spur gear currently available that still has the diff ball holes that the 6-gear trans requires.
Kimbrough makes some spur gears for the RC-10 GT which will fit. the smallest they make is a 60T. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXS396&P=7
it is slightly bigger, so going up a tooth or 2 on the pinion will give you the same ratio as you currently have.
The other option is to change over to 48pitch. There are lots of options for doing so. an 81tooth 48 pitch spur gear has the same diameter as the stock 54t32pitch unit.
There are lots of options for this size, the one below, also from kimbrough, includes diff balls which you probably need to replace anyway.

you will of course need a different pinion. If using the 81t gear, multiply yout current 32pitch pinion size by 1.5 to get the equivalent in 48p.
hope that helped!

Great i appreciate the help, I thought the car was done for. What pinion do you recommend, I actually just ordered Robison Racing odd # pinion set. I think it comes with 6 going from 15 to 25, my motor is a 17 turn.

Re: Spur Gear for RC10 CE
when the pinion and spur are meshed together i get loud whinning noise and they tend to lock up . Does a worn spur gear change the pitch? I have check the trans and seems ok . the motor turns freely. HELP!! Iam use a stock pinion and spur .
Re: Spur Gear for RC10 CE
First off, do you have any slack in your mesh setting? Usually you can take a strip of regular paper and run in between the spur and pinion to set the correct amount of slack. The loud whining sound would normally indicate incorrect gear mesh.rctenracer wrote:when the pinion and spur are meshed together i get loud whinning noise and they tend to lock up . Secondly, how badly worn is the spur? If the spur is badly worn it can cause problems in regards to gear mesh.

It is a trashed spur gear. When to larry's rc and ran a few laps . they helped me out with a 48p gear set . noise is gone

I hope Larry's isn't struggling these days. I would hate to see them go out of biz.
