Does anyone have a good method for mounting a house transponder in a jrx-2 that doesn't involve drilling a hole in the body? there is not much room under the lid with all the electronics in place.
On my jrx-T I put a hole in the right side dirt shield so the transponder will fit nicely in next to the steering servo.
On my lunchbox I will probably bend up and drill some lexan sheet to mount to the steering servo mount screws to put the transponder up front.
Just a reminder to tall the vintage nats people to do this in advance so as to avoid last minute X-acto "drilling" on the way to the start line. (I've done it myself once or twice )
Another reminder anyone with an aluminium tub chassis don't mount it in the bottom of the chassis. At our vintage meet half the Topcats and RC10's lost their first round because the chassis blocked the signal
The best way is the one you have alluded to with regard to the dirt shield on the truck. Use some scrap lexan or other "foldable" yet stiff plastic (Ice cream" container plastic is actually brilliant too). Bent and trim it to your desired location and hey presto - instant transponder mount.
Best thing about it is is that you dont have to make any holes. Just prepare the surface by cleaning thoroughly with rubbing alcohol (or motor spray) - and use good quality double sided tape to secure it. You wont put a mark on you classic ride.
Bugle is right - make sure if you have an alloy chassis car - you must mount the transponder on the shock tower - or use the method described above - as mounting it to the chassis will just potentially block the transponders signal.

If possible I would just get a Personal Transponder.
Assuming your track uses the right software.
It's so much easier. and if you are running multiple vehicles, just stick it with velcro.
job done.
Thanks for the advice, this is what I came up with. Just a folded piece of lexan, mounted to the side bulkhead using longer than stocks screws.
There is just enough room for the transponder to fit, assuming that my fake transponder is indeed the exact dimensions of the AMB unit.

Seeing the pic, my only concern would be the possibility of the transponder causing problems with (shorting?? ) or being affected by (the EM field ) the battery.

Just put some tape on the transponder to stop it shorting on the batts.....other than that - perfect.

oh - "EDIT" - the transponders you will be using are plastic - so no need!! (thats a "dummy" transponder) !

so do all transponders have that style mount on the top there? because the transponder i've seen in the vintage nats thread looks like it has 3 losi style looking tabs off the side, not just a regular body mount on top.
Personal transponders (low profile and red in colour generally) do have the three "tags" - so that is what is confusing you.
Most "loaner" transponders from raceways and clubs look like the "dummy" ones shown on the losi above (albeit in red plastic).
Don't worry mate - it will be smooth sailing.

Hey guys, I'm getting ready for the VONATs and wanted to know if the following transponder is appropriate for most tracks including Wolcott Hobbies track. I believe its the most common one used and is the standard one most racers are running but...

Not sure about that one, but I took my MyLaps one out of it's holder and sticky taped it directly to the chassis.
I've been carefully trimming and mounting a body and have come to the part where I have problems/mess up... the front post. I don't want to mess up at this point because it's coming out really nice.
Can you guys give me some tips and or help?

While I had all the tools of mass destruction out, how about some vents in the windows!
I like those vent holes! I just might have to borrow this idea ... lol thanks man!
Umm my batteries in the shotgun format dont seem to fit very well in the gold chassis I'm building. Length wise they are too long and would never fit in the holder and if i cut the end off the holder the battery will stick out of the end and get too...

I'm old school, and I don't have even 1 stick pack. All my packs, even the ones I just bought a month ago, have been taken apart and assembled into side by side packs.
I also don't own any battery or motor plugs, :D , all my stuff is still hard...
I have been collecting parts for a gold pan resto (shelf queen) and would like to put a stealth tranny in it. I have the goldpan car, and the stealth tranny is on its way. Does someone make a template to drill a 6 gear chassis for a stealth? Will I...

kinda ot, but a year or two ago i bought one off ebay and all i got was an envelope with a piece of cardboard in it.
if it was one of you guys who 'sold' it to me you owe me a stealth template...
i got a replacement servo which is a bit shorter than a standard sized servo, but the short servo mounting holes seem to be for a more narrow servo. Im going to drill a new hole for mounting (the rest of the tub is swiss cheesed up already via...

HI!... Heat up the screw with a lighter before screwing it in. Won't split the plastic. This is a well know tip for Tamiya plastic. :)
I'm getting very close to jumping into my first Kyosho re-re, and I'm struggling to decide which model to get between the Scorpion, Turbo Scorpion or the Tomahawk. I like the Tomahawk the best of the three except that I think it looks goofy without...

For as long as possible I was trying to figure out a way to retain the exhausts as well but in the end just said, screw it!
Also had to cut a lot more than planned for the rear shocks as I'm using the carbon LWB kit.
