Transponder mounting

Does anyone have a good method for mounting a house transponder in a jrx-2 that doesn't involve drilling a hole in the body? there is not much room under the lid with all the electronics in place.
On my jrx-T I put a hole in the right side dirt shield so the transponder will fit nicely in next to the steering servo.
On my lunchbox I will probably bend up and drill some lexan sheet to mount to the steering servo mount screws to put the transponder up front.

Just a reminder to tall the vintage nats people to do this in advance so as to avoid last minute X-acto "drilling" on the way to the start line. (I've done it myself once or twice )

Another reminder anyone with an aluminium tub chassis don't mount it in the bottom of the chassis. At our vintage meet half the Topcats and RC10's lost their first round because the chassis blocked the signal

The best way is the one you have alluded to with regard to the dirt shield on the truck. Use some scrap lexan or other "foldable" yet stiff plastic (Ice cream" container plastic is actually brilliant too). Bent and trim it to your desired location and hey presto - instant transponder mount.

Best thing about it is is that you dont have to make any holes. Just prepare the surface by cleaning thoroughly with rubbing alcohol (or motor spray) - and use good quality double sided tape to secure it. You wont put a mark on you classic ride.

Bugle is right - make sure if you have an alloy chassis car - you must mount the transponder on the shock tower - or use the method described above - as mounting it to the chassis will just potentially block the transponders signal.

If possible I would just get a Personal Transponder.
Assuming your track uses the right software.
It's so much easier. and if you are running multiple vehicles, just stick it with velcro.

Thanks for the advice, this is what I came up with. Just a folded piece of lexan, mounted to the side bulkhead using longer than stocks screws.
There is just enough room for the transponder to fit, assuming that my fake transponder is indeed the exact dimensions of the AMB unit.

Seeing the pic, my only concern would be the possibility of the transponder causing problems with (shorting?? ) or being affected by (the EM field ) the battery.

Just put some tape on the transponder to stop it shorting on the batts.....other than that - perfect.

oh - "EDIT" - the transponders you will be using are plastic - so no need!! (thats a "dummy" transponder) !

so do all transponders have that style mount on the top there? because the transponder i've seen in the vintage nats thread looks like it has 3 losi style looking tabs off the side, not just a regular body mount on top.

i'm so confused over these darn doohickeys.

Personal transponders (low profile and red in colour generally) do have the three "tags" - so that is what is confusing you.

Most "loaner" transponders from raceways and clubs look like the "dummy" ones shown on the losi above (albeit in red plastic).

Don't worry mate - it will be smooth sailing.
