** Hopelessly Incomplete Project of the Month - April 2025 **

Post by Frankentruck »

We always like seeing runners and excellent shelfers, but how about the projects that never seem to come to completion? This contest is for the projects that are stuck. Missing parts, broken parts, impossible to find parts, or lack of motivation to put the parts together. What does winning mean? Congratulations, you had a vision but you haven't built it yet! Maybe next year?

Rules: We always need rules, even if they aren't enforceable

You have 7 days to post up photos of your entry. No need to do a placeholder. Just proudly put in your entry and let the intimidation begin.

Up to 10 entries are allowed

Up to 3 photos of an entry.

Photos are uploaded to the site, not remotely hosted

No run videos because entries need to be incomplete.
Runners are disqualified and the overachiever will be booed!

Open to all brands and franken-style builds

"Winning" one month does not disallow a different entry from the same member in another month.

Past monthly "winner" entry not eligible for future monthly entry.

2 votes per member will be allowed. Are votes for an entry actually an insult? 🤔

Voting poll will be added on 8th of the month, or sooner if there are 10 entries before then.

Please only make contest entry posts before the poll is up. After poll has begun, other posts can be made.

Thanks for reading all this. Good luck?

Wait- you only want pics of one unfinished build? I have like 14 going at a time 😅 I wouldn't know how to decide.

Oh well, I'll bite

This was at one point a Marui Samurai. It was given to me by my friend who never really got to drive it as it was in this exact condition when it was given to him when he was a kid. I got halfway through breaking it down for cleaning and seeing what it needed before I realized it needs just about everything. (Maybe I should enlist Silvertriple for help lol)

Yes, that's the roof crudely affixed to the underside of the chassis to brace a crack in the frame.

How it sits currently

The gearbox was epoxied together, one of the diffs is also epoxied together. Basically I need to replace most of the plastics. Sooner or later I'll buy the models from Optima House and print some parts but this is on hold for now.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

I'll jump in!

I guess mine isn't too bad, but I started with a complete roller and ended up with most of a slider after three years.

THIS is my unicorn. When my parents brought me to the hobby store back in 1990 and asked which kit I wanted, I pointed to the blue and white buggy that looked like a space ship. The store said it'd be too hard to assemble for a novice (probably right) and I'd have to race modified buggy, so i left with a JRX-T. Years later when i got back into RC I sifted through $800-$1000 listings for years until I happened upon this reasonably priced listing. It's remaining axles and bearings are a little rusty, it survived replacing most of the hardware with hex drive, but then an event came up that I tried to get it or one of the other lazers running for and some parts got scavenged, never returned, then it was put on the shelf. Don't know when I'll get back to it. I now have quite a collection and this is the farthest from running, both parts and time wise.

When I got it.

That's 10. That went quick. Post up your entries when you can over the next few days (preferably before Monday). Once they are all added I'll put the poll up. Remember each person gets 2 votes.

Awesomeness. I was looking around at all my parted out junk and decided to sit this one out. I know we will see some hopelessly unfinished unicorns in this one. Good luck all!

I could participate into such a Project of the Month/Year : I stoped counting the started/unfinished project at 15, and I probably started another few... But I'm not sure that an unsorted set of parts from 3 different builds of a given car can pretend to participate into :-)
At least I see one interest into this thread : I'm far from alone procrastinating on some fo my projects (and procrastinating is just one single cause, finding a missing part can be another one)...
I buy kits to build and ru(i)n them :-)
