Well, I think my Schumacher Daytona project is an obvious candidate for this competition..... as a few people have been telling me!
I remember looking at images and details of the Daytona back when they were initially released, in 1992/1993. At the time, I had a Schumacher Nitro 10, and the two vehicles shared the engine and a number of other major parts. I was always amazed that this sporty little nitro pan chassis was related to my great hulking monster of a gas truck... and read all the articles and reviews that came past my eyes. Sadly, they were a bit too expensive for me to buy, after shelling out for the Nitro 10 (which I had lots of fun but little luck with anyway), so ownership remained a pipe dream.
Roll on the early to mid-2000s, and I'm collecting Nitro 10 projects off eBay, with the plan of rebuilding my old one, and maybe having a runner or two. Picked up some great bargains over the years, although people would rightly comment that I was paying good money for junk.... but hey, it was my money, and not much of it needed to be spent back then!
Roll on to August 2006, and my good buddy Jason has picked up a massive lot of new Schumacher parts, which included a lot of nitro stuff that he had no use for.... these came to me, and became the beginning of my own Nitro 10 project.
In August 2008, the collecting of parts was progressing, to the point where I started an ironically-named "Build Thread" here on RC10Talk. This became a place on the forum to discuss all things Daytona, keep a list of missing parts, show off new arrivals, and have people all over the world berate me for not having the project finished yet. The thread still runs (obviously), and can be found here:

Things moved along (!!) for a few years, and in December 2011 I was lucky enough to be sent a scan of an original manual by a good friend... an early Christmas present indeed! This was able to detail more about what I was missing, and how this weird little thing went together. IN July 2016, I was able to source my own near-new copy of the manual, but for years, that scan was a lifesaver, and a Dogsend.
In November 2018, I had some more good fortune, picking up a near-complete Daytona on eBay for a great price, including the kit box - don't think I've ever hit a Buy-It-Now on eBay quicker! A big day for me indeed, as it showed me that a) kit boxes did exist; and b) these cars did actually mount together! It also supplied me with original versions of the carbon fibre parts I had been missing, which I was later able to have reproduced by Bezerk RC here in Australia..... carbon parts for all!
By May 2019, the parts collecting had become a bit of an issue, with large numbers of parts and upgrades having been procured, but still no build progressed in any meaningful way. This culminated in the spreading out of all parts, much embarrassment at exactly how much was there, and a renewed vigour for finding the remaining missing parts, and "getting on with it"!

As mentioned previously, missing carbon parts was one of the big issues for the project, which now seemed to be building not one, but THREE Daytonas! At this time, contact was made with Bezerk RC, who manufacture and reproduce carbon fibre parts for racers down here in Australia. Their quality workmanship is known the world over, and they were local, so my uber-rare carbon bits (from the eBay kit) were sent off to be reproduced.... and the parts that came back were an exact match to the originals in shape, colour, and quality. Can thoroughly recommend Paul at Bezerk RC, and he now has the parts on file for reproduction for anyone.... he even has the chassis, if you really feel like splashing out!
Some time later in the piece, my good buddy from the GlobalTeamOfRob, RJ (
@RC10th ) expressed an interest in the Irvine engines.... so I sent him a couple needing rebuilding, as well as some parts. In September 2023, a couple of rebuilt Irvine engines arrived back, looking like new parts. One would go in the Daytona, and the other becomes a paperweight, ready to donate parts (internally carp). Many thanks, RJ... the engine looks great, and promises to be awesome when the project gets rolling

Also big thanks to Andy in Slovakia, who provided me with some reproduction / home-made air filters - the originals rotted away just by looking at them, and Andy's parts look perfect.
So, fast forward to today, and this is where the project sits:
Still need to sort out a few minor things, connect up the radio linkages, create the wiring harness, and mount the body. Could be finished in a few weeks..... could be a few more years. Keep an eye on the build thread for more updates!
Oh, and just for gits and shiggles, I recently started a parallel Daytona build.... this one will be an electric conversion, because why not. That one is waiting for me to rebuild a transmission, so it could be a while....
Osiris is the key.
