Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
AE are showing stress just installing the stock rods, very disappointed in them. The FanRC work great for a stock style end. Rpm are heavy duty but they are large and can create some clearance issues.

Going to use the stock TB's for now, may replace them at some point in the future.

Can't live with those orange shocks though. Something will need to be done.

The dye job really is making this look good. I wonder how stripping the anodizing and going silver on the shock bodies would look? That might compliment the silver wheels well.

Much thanks! And regarding the shock stripping/polishing: are you a mind reader?duckhead wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 4:42 pmI'm liking where this is goingGreenBar0n wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 3:34 pm Going to use the stock TB's for now, may replace them at some point in the future.

I was thinking about trying to tape off portions of the shock body, and polish the uncovered areas with a dremel buffing type wheel, to achieve orange lines, or stripes, on the silver shocks. Probably just ruin all the orange attempting that, or won't be able to get precise clean lines, and end up taking them back to bare high polished aluminum finish. Will need something though, can't just be CC shocks.
Following up with the front wheel bearing issues:
Wow, FastEddy! They don't call him Fast for nothing, I sent him an email regarding the issue with the front bearings for the GE and JJH front wheels, and not 5 minutes later he responded:
Took me a bit to get the details together:Please let me know the exact size ID X OD X Width and how many. We will get them right out to you.
-Ed

He responded in less than a minute after sending the above and some more details.
The kits going forward should be fixed from here on out with FastEddy. It's how you handle the problem, as a vendor/seller, that makes all of the difference. I'm back in the FastEddy camp for bearings, well done sir!Got it.

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
By chance, have you considered printing shock bodies and caps using green PLA?
Maybe to use as place holders until something better comes along??
Not that the gold/orange anno or polished aluminum shocks would look bad.
Another option might be to strip and polish followed by transparent green (PS-44) followed by 2k clear for durability.

Might be less costly than anodized green.

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
I painted The Dead Pool Vette's shocks, a while back.

Wouldn't mind doing a homemade anodizing, in a dark green, it really isn't that laborious or prohibitively expensive to get in to.

This thing is coming along really nice! Can't wait to see it completed! Do you have a paint scheme in mind? Or just more solid Hulkness?

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
Thanks for the encouragement on this one! I was waiting to see how the shocks turn out before deciding on the body, need to tie it all together somehow. I do like that old Cali low rider panel look, with the nasty big metal flake like the 70's boats. I'll have to be realistic though with what I can actually pull off. I will be using an airbrush and booth on this one, curious to see what's possible.howsyouraspen wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:00 pm This thing is coming along really nice! And for $7.50 on ebay, I got a new Team CRP #1552 front axle kit, which allows the Tamiya 5X11 metric bearings and front wheels to be used on an RC10. This also allows for a much wider choice of wheels and tires.

Will finish the turnbuckles tonight, and get the shocks figured out soon.

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
The easiest way I have found to build the stock turnbuckles, is a shock wrench, and the old plastic AE wrench. Leaves no marks.

Tried to see how the orange shocks would match, just to give them a last chance.

Without the orange shocks.

All silver/polished aluminum seems right for this. Will get the Dremel buffing wheel out and find out what's under that orange. Or maybe look at the CC shock bodies, and leave these alone for another project.

The steel threaded rod chews up the aluminum shock wrench though.GreenBar0n wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:31 pm The easiest way I have found to build the stock turnbuckles, is a shock wrench, and the old plastic AE wrench. Leaves no marks.

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
You could run the gold shocks and go with a Green Goblin paint scheme. Would have to fabricate a pumpkin bomb launcher though. Maybe B.A. and Murdock still have the blueprints to that lettuce head cannon. You could just scale that down.
Further research indicates it was, in fact, a cabbage cannon.

Hope you're doin' something fun.

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
Didn’t think I’d like the green so much!
Am I the only one who used a 4-40 tap in the ball cups!? lol I’d have given up on them w/o the tap, nothing I had here could hold the cups without destroying them.

Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
I mentioned it was the easiest way, didn't say smartest. For $9 on Amazon for the shock wrench though, that tool has performed its job on many stock TB kits now. Clean ball cups and ease of installation being the priority, in this case.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:40 pmThe steel threaded rod chews up the aluminum shock wrench though.GreenBar0n wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 9:31 pm The easiest way I have found to build the stock turnbuckles, is a shock wrench, and the old plastic AE wrench. Re: RC10 Green Edition - Build
I could find use for a moon cabbage cannon around here, it's been 7 years here in CA since that was an issue thoughTRX-1-3 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 10:00 pm You could run the gold shocks and go with a Green Goblin paint scheme. And as far as the theme: there will be no gobbling, or 'gobblin' of anything, associated or affiliated with this project; sorry to disappoint any.
