No, I'm an idiot!
Sold the car and tossed the box. BITD, I didn't think any of this would become collectible or valuable.

How cool would it be to have a 1:1 Scorcher to drive!!
If I had Leno's money, I'd own at least one and a 1:1 Turbo Scorpion as well.
Two of the coolest RC's of all time.

Speaking of castles... so many quarters spent at Aladdin's Castle playing Super Off Road... worth every penny.
That's a serious level-up, using a guitar

Are you a game collector, or a MAME user? Let me know if you need any of those old ROM's, been collecting for decades. Have all the console ROM's too, even ADAM for ColecoVision .
Game collector, kinda... MAME, not too much. Got into it for a moment back in the early 2000's but it was all so glitchy I lost interest. Now they've got all the mini consoles with 45,000 games that, I think are the same thing just in a dedicated box, but would rather have the 100 or so games I really like rather than 50 amongst thousands like the mini consoles have. Might take you up on the ROM's down the road though, thank you for that.

Speaking of which... ADAM?.... sorry, had to do it:

The Sand Scorcher box is huge, I'm going to have to find somewhere to keep it and the Rough Rider box.

Would love to have a 1:1 RC10/GT too :D.

The emulators now are solid, smooth as the real thing was, and faster loading. It's nostalgia that wears off quickly, but it's fun to revisit. I only have vintage CD based consoles now, that are chipped, got rid of all my cartridge based games for emulated ROM's.

Do still have the NES R.O.B., couldn't get rid of my robotic operating buddy.

I still have all the rig for him, with the gyros, spinner, and controller holder, probably have the Gyromite cart somewhere too.

I wonder if yours is yellowed now too, I keep mine out of the sun, but he's still turned a bit.

I spent a lot of time yesterday knocking the yellow off of a vintage Apple Mac SE keyboard, used 12% peroxide hair creme out in the sun. Might do that to R.O.B. someday.

That keyboard came out nice. Questioning R.O.B.'s condition piqued my curiosity so I pulled him out... to my surprise, no yellowing at all. I'd read the discoloration was caused by ozone, so even covered the plastics would still turn. I was shocked to find him as evenly grey and shiny as new.

...I should have taken a photo of him.

Do you have the full Deluxe NES kit in the box still, or just R.O.B.?

I've seen some R.O.B. modification projects people have done in the past, to make him more useful. :D

It's actually one of the early release Entertainment Systems made before they introduced the Deluxe Set. Contents are the same but the box art is a little different, lacks the words "Deluxe Set" since the other sets (and need to differentiate) didn't exist at the time. But, yeah, still have everything down to the baggies all the individual components were packaged in when new.

R.O.B.'s lack of utility is why he's lived his life in the box. Got played with a couple times and found out he didn't do much. I absolutely loved the Power Glove, but it was almost as useless. Totally awesome, but basically pointless. :D

Including R.O.B. was part of the genius of the NES Famicom marketing. After Atari 2600 and ET, and some of the other games that were purely cash grabs, parents were reluctant to buy their kids 'gaming systems'. But if the 'console' included a robot, or a computer (ADAM, C64, etc.), it wasn't seen as a complete waste of time. :D

Could only find one of the smaller correct size Gumout decals, the other one will turn up some day.
Image

In order to make the passenger side match, I'm going to have to borrow the Gumout from the Rough Rider common sheet.
Image

Had to do it.
Image

If I can't find the other Gumout decal from the Sand Scorcher common sheet, the up and coming Rough Rider project will use the blue and white scheme instead of orange, which doesn't require that decal.
Image

Image

Still can't figure out why the tail reflectors don't actually fit over the tail light panels.
Image

Also noticed I followed the manuals directions and painted the tail lights red, orange, and white. Box art is orange, red, red.
Image

Might have to redo the tail lights again.

Will paint the interior-plate seats, and dash board, next.

Every time I've seen the clear tail light lenses used, they've first had to dremel the opaque faux lens from the base. It seems that Tamiya should give you blank bases (with led receptacles) for use with the clear lenses but they don't. Anyway, I think the clear lenses are a 2010 re-release addition; I don't think they were included with the original kits.

I've also noticed that tail light lens colors are different on the Blitzer and Monster Beetles (they are orange/red/white). As you've noted on the SS, while the instructions have you paint the lenses red/orange/white, the boxart clearly shows orange on top. Anyway, I'm not knowledgeable enough about Beetles to know which way is correct.

When I search for 1979 Beetle tail lights, it pretty much confirms every version of the Sand Scorcher box art is not accurate. :D
Image

Orange, red, white, is '79 US spec. Euro spec is the same apparently.

Will still do the orange, red, red most likely.

Got the interior-plate painted today.
Image

The dash board I'll go over with X-18 aluminum and detail and highlight the features, later.
Image

But the masking tape pulled the acrylic airbrush paint from the floor board, in a few spots.
Image

Need to figure out what to use for anchoring my driver and passengers. Might try clear hot glue first, at their bases.
Image

Going to paint the spots where the black floor board came off, using Createx adhesion promoter mixed in to the black paint this time. Wonder if the clear hot glue can be painted with that mix - will test that too.

Might have to switch out the Ruffles body on my driver.

Be careful with the hot glue, it could melt those printed parts.
I'd probably use Shoe Goo or Mod Podge. Both dry clear (Mod Podge dries crystal clear) and I'm pretty sure they will accept paint but you might want to test them with your paint.

Used some adhesion promoter mixed in to the black airbrush paint, it seems to be holding well.
Image

Had to use clear hot glue to anchor my driver, the airbrush paint and 3D printed surface had no trouble with the 200°C hot glue.

I have some passengers that will need to be 3D printed at the correct scale, looking forward to learning that part of CAD.
