Ugh. If I have one more soldering issue I will have had them all. But anyway that's besides the point. I was wondering what size pinion people were running? The info I have says for 17.5t sensored motor to use like 30 or 31t. Seems to be way too big to me but that's not something I would know. I'm not too concerned about the resulting performance just yet but worry that it might cause excessive heating of the motor or esc. Any thoughts?

Does you motor have a recommended final drive ratio (FDR)
If so you can work out if that pinion is in the right range.

What size spur gear are you using? An fdr around 6 is a safe place to start with a 17.5 in a buggy. If you have an 81t spur then a 30t pinion works, but it might be a tight fit? You could also try 78/29 or 75/28 so the motor is not slammed all the way back on the motor plate.

Retro rc... thank you. I didn't even think the motor would have a recommended final drive ratio. So I looked up the specs and it recommends 6.0:1. Then I went back to the re re world's instructions and found the chart where I read to use a 30t pinion. Sure enough it lists the final drive ratio with a 30t pinion and 81t spur as 6.08:1. So that checks out. I think I used something like an 18 or 20t pinion back in the day so I'm intrigued to see the performance with this 30t pinion. Carloco I did double check to see if the pinion would even fit and yes it's pretty much all the way back but there is room to set a proper gear mesh. As always thank you all for the info. It is always on point and extremely helpful. It's difficult getting back into the swing of things after so long because so much has changed and I don't even know what I don't know

Ok so I have finally got the car running and yeah it's pretty quick. Acceleration is impressive. It seems to reach top speed pretty quickly. And really even before I ran it I put the tires on and played around with the diff. It does feel like things are "breaking in" well. Definitely have to run it more than 15 to 20 min to make a final call on that but there really isn't much concern from me on this point anymore. After some time I will rebuild with all the Associated parts I bought for the diff. The only issue I have with the drive train is that the spur and pinion seem to make a good bit of noise. I've tried resetting the gear mesh a few times and it only seems to have improved slightly. At first I cut a small sliver of paper and wedged it in between the teeth and tightened the motor mount screws the result was fairly noisy. Then I used two small slivers and finally three. That's where I have it setup now. If I hold the pinion still and rock the spur gear there is a slight amount of movement which is I think what I want. It's quieter but still a little noisy. Anyone have any tips for the mesh setup? I have an aluminum Losi 30t 48p pinion. Or is this spur gear just a little noisy. The loudest part of the car though is definitely my savox digital servo.

Sounds like you got the mesh correct, just make sure you can rock the spur gear for a full 360° rotation. Sometimes they are slightly out of round and still make noise if there is a tight spot somewhere. Check for any excess flashing and if you are still unhappy with the stock spur, best thing is to try another one.

Hi Guys than Fan RC is running real good .. CA'd bell cranks N diff is smooth cracking bit of kit.. bit of mockery with AE stickers got an under tray fitted too from penguin .. " I think"

How does the graphite chassis compare to a tub for handling? I would think lots of flex from the graphite.
