1. Remove the head from the engine.
2. Rotate the crank till the piston is at top dead center (piston can be broken if you don't)
3. Remove the back plate
4. remove the piston sleeve. (these tend to stick but be careful how remove it it's easily damaged)
5. now the rod will slide off the crank pin and the piston rod assembly can be removed.
Always rotate the to TDC alot of back plates have a groove cut in them that the piston skirt will drop into at BDC. If you try to remove the back plate when the piston is in that groove you will break the piston if you force it. As for reassembly after run oil is the best thing to use.
Nitro engine maintenance & disassembly
Re: Nitro engine maintenance & disassembly
Horse power is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far the wall moves when you hit it.

Re: Nitro engine maintenance & disassembly
I will take a pic when I can but basically all you'll be seeing is an engine with no head or piston sleeve with its back plate stuck on. Thanks for all the info. but I think I just need to work on getting the back plate off using the tips previously suggested.Tripp wrote:1. Remove the head from the engine.

Hey Doc,
My curiosity has been sparked...what motor are you trying to disassemble?
