Junk worn out brushed motors
One of the reasons I dislike brushed stock motors is the non-rebuildable construction. I know an endbell can be popped off, but it doesn't usually go back on well or fit tight again. So I have a bunch of worn out motors that I'm thinking about putting in the trash. Some have shorts and overheat, some are split open, some have horrible squealing bushings. I don't know what else to do with them. Anyone have any other thoughts?

The bearings can be replaced with ball bearings , might have sort of done it back in the day but there's no proof guv

If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Re: Junk worn out brushed motors
The problem is, once the endbell is removed the crimp isn't a good fit anymore after reinstall. I used to try that to 'improve' my motors. Rules are meant to be broken... but it was my motors that ended up broken.

Re: Junk worn out brushed motors
I don't bother much with closed endbell motors. I'll flush them out and oil the bushings. If that fails, they are trash.
I've rebuilt several "tab" style motors. I just use a automatic center punch to lock the tabs back down.

Hahaha! You beat me to it
I used to use an automatic punch to reset the tabs. It will leave a dimple but shocks the tab back into place pretty nicely. I use this punch for a lot of things, even for knocking out stubborn hinge pins.

As I rarely run my cars anymore, most of time I just throw them into my shelf queens
please don’t chuck the Reedy competition or the 240, am sure they could be retired to the shelf somewhere.

I come for the RC10's but stay for the Yokomo's

This was my first impression also. You have a few there that would clean up nice and play the part on a shelf queen.
I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Re: Junk worn out brushed motors
I don't give up on motors until they're basket cases. The Competition Stock is intent on being a smoker. The 240ST had some running issues and is rusty. If someone has a use for a box of non-runner motors, PM me a mailing address. Most of them don't have springs, brushes, or brush screws.
