Where Are You Getting your 8-32 1/2" Aluminum Pan Screws From?

Post by morrisey0 »

I have been getting my 100* 8-32 1/2" screws from Fastener Express ever since I got back into the hobby, and I feel like each time I order, the quality of the anodizing / dyeing gets worse and worse. The bag of 50 I got today are simply terrible! I would never put these on a car to present in any way, shape, or form! What I have attached is not the worst of the bunch, but literally just a random sampling. Some seem to be fully anodized (or more correctly dyed while anodized), while others seem to have no color / dye at all (which makes me wonder if they are anodized at all), and most are somewhere in the middle.

Do you have a solid source of good looking aluminum pan screws you can share?

I ordered some of these and they worked out great. I have a black pan so I really liked them. They were an exact fit. I have not ordered a second time though.

I did a quick search but did not see anything other than black.

I know a guy that knows a guy who’s put a tremendous amount of time and effort to make these out of from what I know are raw ones.

I mostly use stainless from Team KnK.

Custom Works has blue aluminum. CRP has red aluminum.

I just use stainless steel ones from McMaster. Unless I'm doing an actual resto, it's not worth using aluminum ones.

I guess I had CRP on the brain, as I was installing some of their stuff on a truck.

To a cheapskate that normally buys in bulk it seems a bit expensive. I guess it's better than $2 each.

Well, a set of these screws used to sell for what, like $2. Now they bring $30+. So at $16 for an equivalent yes it’s high but also low. Just depends on where you are standing when you consider it. If you care enough that you want it to look right, imo $1 a screw is great. If you want functional then yeah it’s high.
