Gear removal from 6571 top shaft?
I'm considering a 4wd project and the initial plans depend on being able to replace the 6571 top shaft with a new shaft that's extended on the non-slipper end for the addition of a drive pulley. I either need to be able to remove and reuse the gear from a 6571 top shaft, or find a source of a comparable gear. I like the reuse option because then I know I have a compatible gear, but I don't know if the gear is just tight fit on the 6571 shaft and needing to be heated for removal, or if it's more permanently attached. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Re: Gear removal from 6571 top shaft?
I might be overthinking this a bit. It appears to just be a 48 pitch, 20 tooth gear on a 3/16" shaft. There probably are good replacement options available.

Can you use the Avid B4 aluminum topshaft?

That probably wouldn't work for me. I prefer steel and would still be using my T3 slipper. Also will be needing the shaft extended. What does that shaft use for a gear?

I have successfully used an Axial 20T gear on the 5mm STRC shaft intended for the Traxxas Rustler V2 slipper conversion

To convert the top shaft to metric you either have to ream the bearing hole to a 10mm diameter or add some tape around 5x9mm bearings:
