Kyosho Scorpion / Tomahawk with custom parts
Hi all,
Have started to work on a new project - hope you like it.
Any thoughts on where to take this build are appreciated.
There were quite a few surprises when I received the original car and took it apart: Ball bearings throughout, Tomahawk diff, jg fiberglass shock stay, custom aluminum wing and (custom?) aluminum motor guard.
I have started with the build now and am integrating a couple of neat parts:
- Duratrax aluminum wheel set
- RCH heavy duty front shock stay
- various Tomahawk parts
- vintage Kyosho shocks
- Race Prep shock collars and springs
Current build is just an approximation as I am awaiting some parts and still need to figure out how to properly mount the shocks.
Looking forward to hearing any thoughts and ideas for this project.

Those look like Duratrax wheels. Looks like a nice build project, looking forward to updates!

If the anodizing on those wheels is looking a little dull, they do polish up nicely after removing the anodizing.HoudiniTheG wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 2:02 pm Thank you both for the kind words.

Re: Kyosho Scorpion / Tomahawk with custom parts
Some updates:
- Rest suspension now properly installed but not yet happy with the suspension movement
- Nerf wings from dirt burners
- Tomahawk battery tray
- Scorpion steering
Outlook:
Will try to build custom sway bars for front and rear. Plus more Tomahawk parts are on their way.

Re: Kyosho Scorpion / Tomahawk with custom parts
It looks like you may have the rear suspension pin's mounted wrong , yours seems to be parallel to the grp plate , one of the pin mounts is taller than the other and this one goes on the outside so the pin is higher on the outside and lower toward the centre of the chassis , this changes the camber as the wheel rises and keeps the dog bone from falling out , it may be why you have a problem with the suspension movement .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.
A problem shared is a problem halved but an advantage shared is no advantage at all.
