Ultima Tires?
Ultima Tires?
I have a old Ultima I have fixed up, and now i am looking for tires for it.
My Hobby store said I will never find tire for it unless I went to ebay and spent a arm and a leg.
My best bet was to order a set of updated wheels and tires for it so I did.
2.2 rims and tires when the wheel and tires came in and I went to pick them up the tires are for carpet racing he told me but I had asked for
the dirt style tires that came with the buggy from the pictures.
So I have some old rims that came with this buggy and bald tires
I have new 2.2 rims with tires that wont last long in the dirt and rocks around here
I have looked to the point that this is nothing but a joke.
Is there anyone or web site where you can get off road tires for this buggy? For the old ugly rims or these new 2.2 rims?

Re: Ultima Tires?
I do not know
All he said was that the buggy was over 30 years old and finding parts for it with out going to new version parts was going to be hard
I know after spending hours on line find a gear case that ended up different then what I had and then hunting down every single parts to make it work.
I gave up for a while. Then I decided it was not going into the garbage can, and I dug into fixing it, now it's the dam tires and wheels
I see they do not have spikey front tires for dirt
Thank you for pointing me to that site

Re: Ultima Tires?
You can also order the wheels and tires from the Ultima rerelease.

Re: Ultima Tires?
Interesting, so it looks like those would fit the Raider too!
I found these Schumacher front wheels that looks like the could fit the Ultima/Optima/Raider, etc as they do not have hexes. I need to figure out something with more grip for my Turbo Raider as it has always understeered like a pig on road.

Or this combo could be an excellent deal assuming it fits!

Re: Ultima Tires?
The original Ultimas used 1.9 size tires for both front and rear according to the Duratrax tire chart. There's always new old stock packages of that size on eBay. The going rate is between $20-$25 a pair.
Re: Ultima Tires?
I got some tires from duratrax and they to are carpet tires they looked good in the pic but if you put them in the dirt or rocks the first two or three spins and the tires are gone.
I was looking at the wheels from kyosho. White? can they be painted? will paint stick to plastic?

Re: Ultima Tires?
If you want wheels to fit 2.2" modern tyres, it's never been easier. Two simple solutions, first is Kyosho Turbo Scorpion wheels, bolt straight on and have the correct bearing size and offset. Second option, the pepperpot style wheels for the Ultima from JC Racing, available in a wide range of colours https://www.jcracingproducts.co.uk/vintage-wheels/wheels/kyosho-2wd-ultima. You can then use any modern tyre you want.
If you want tyres like the originals, then MarwanRC is the source for repros of the rears. For an alternative that will fit in the original wheels, you could look at the Schumacher 2" square block tyres as a similar style tyre that should be easier to find and replace as they wear. They are a good all round tyre. There's also the rerelease tyres, the front are the same as the originals.
You won't find modern dirt tyres that look similar to the original style as they just don't work on modern dirt tracks which are rock hard.

Re: Ultima Tires?
I have 2 sets of the "original" Turbo Ultima rears, still in the package. BUT, look for rears for the "new" Ultima, they are the right size for the vintage rims (50mm)

Re: Ultima Tires?
If you want to use the original multi-piece wheels, Ebay and FB Market are likely your best options.
Then there is the re-re Ultima tires and wheels. Similar look to original but one-piece design. I think that the sizing is similar to original but tires have inserts and beads for one-piece wheels.
JC Racing wheels and modern 2.2 tires. A narrow front tire is required, somewhat limiting options. But the wheels are available in multiple colors.
Re-re Turbo Scorpion wheels and modern 2.2 tires. These use the common front tires, which some might not like on a vintage buggy.

Re: Ultima Tires?

Re: Ultima Tires?
Tamiya Supershot or Hotshot rear tires should be close.
According to the old Duratrax listing, they were ~1.9". I put some on 2" wheels and they were very tight.
