Awesome! This is going to be an amazing looking RC when it's finished.
...and perhaps a very rare one as well.

Re: The Presto Resto
There's a NIB Presto listed on ebay at the moment, been on there for a while now. Not cheap at all.

Re: The Presto Resto
Minor but significant update. Anyone who knows these old chain drive Kyosho buggies will know how hard parts can be to find, in particular the front bumpers. I've been trying to find one for a long time with no luck so I started thinking about making one. I happened to have piece of 1.5mm alloy sheet handy so I made up a cardboard template and pretty much just guessed at the measurements going by some pics. I traced it out onto the alloy plate, cut it out and bent it up at work then gave it a coat of primer and satin black.
I'm not 100% happy with it but It'll work for now. I'm thinking about trying some 2mm Kydex and see how that works.

Re: The Presto Resto
Nice job on the bumper. Bumpers for some old Kyosho cars were almost impossible to find, especially the Optima, back in the day. You could never find one that wasn't beat up to hell, or priced affordably, so as they say: "Necessity is the mother of invention", and I made my own, too. I think I used 5mm Kydex though. I'm pretty sure it's thicker than 3mm. I made it extra beefy because the Barney Optima is a real beast.

Re: The Presto Resto
Here are the measurements of the Rowdy Baja bumper I have if it helps any.
266.7mm wide along the front edge.
166.7mm wide along the back edge.
30mm deep in the center before the kickup.
19mm deep on the sides before the kickup.
19mm wide kickup portion.
88.9mm inches center to center mounting holes.
3mm thick.
Some of those measurements may be off +/- 1mm as it's kind of hard to measure.
Not my buggy but the bumper looks like this one:

Re: The Presto Resto
Thanks for those measurements Lowgear, they could come in handy. I wonder if the kickup angle is the same. That bumper does look a bit different to the Vanning/Presto bumper though. I think mine might be a tad short at the ends, from what I can see in the pics the bumper ends pretty much line up with the outer sidewall of the front tyres.

Re: The Presto Resto
Yeah, it's probably different but I figured it may help to get some idea. It is pretty large overall. I did a Google image search for protractors, and held it up to the screen, and it seems to me like it has a 50 degree kickup angle.

Re: The Presto Resto
That was one of two measurements I online converted from Imperial (3-1/2") to Metric. The other was the total width of the bumper as my calipers don't open that wide.
