The Presto Resto

Post by keithrc »

Hi all, haven't posted a thread on here for a while, haven't had too much going on until I scored this Presto that I found when looking for Assault stuff (that'll be another thread on it's own later on). I traded an Ultima Pro for it so all it cost me was postage of the Ultima. It's missing a few bits and pieces but I've tracked some down and are on the way and I also found a parts lot in Canada (also in connection with an Assault purchase). I've already got a body from TBG, tyres and decals on the way from Marwan.

Obviously the front bumper is a home made job and the seller tells me the radio box is from a Thunder Tiger silver fox.

Plans are to give it a good strip down, clean and get it close to box art.

Very cool! One of the many things I like about this site is the opportunity it provides to see new and different RC models that I never knew existed before. Thank you for posting your resto project here.
I'm struck how similar the Presto tires look to Custom Works Dominator tires -- do you think there might be a connection?

Thanks mate, not sure I've seen a Presto build on this site before, haven't searched yet. Not familiar with the Custom Works Dominator or its tyres, the tyres Marwan does are for the vintage Kyosho 1/8 buggies, so Landjump/Vanning/Presto and the other 2WD variants.

This engine came with it as well as some other random parts.

Agreed, I never heard of the Presto...the frame reminds me of a Vanning. Looking forward to the Presto Resto! 8)

The Presto is just a Vanning with a lexan body and a couple longer chassis spacer rods where the cage would usually mount up.

Negative on the tires, but the Dominator is classic!
There isnt a better vintage 1/8 nitro than the Presto...
Its the King!

That's going to be very cool when finished , looks nicer than the Vanning to me and I like frame style buggy's .

If you give me the money Derek, I'll buy whatever ya want mate.

I noticed the number 3 on the box art isn't part of the decals :| Hopefully these parts turn up soon and I can make a start on the beast.

Started stripping the Presto down, It's dirtier than I though but not a big deal. Rear shocks are very leaky, the chain gear idler is missing about 4 teeth as is the main spur gear (the spur gear a plastic item from another car). Luckily the parts lot I have on the way has replacements for these parts. One of the chassis rails has a slight bend, both have scuffing, not surprising given it's age.

I've just had a couple parts delivered which I'll post pics of later.

It's been a while since I last posted here so time for a small update. The car is mostly disassembled and has been boxed up since my last post. I've been wanting to get to work on it but needed to clear some space first. I've got new repro decals and tyres and the parts lot I mentioned before eventually arrived from Canada, there's a mix of NIP and used parts including new shock and piston assemblies, new rear suspension arm sets & C hubs, new chain idler pully, front and rear diffs, chassis rails, set of wheels/tyres 2 manuals and almost enough unused original decals do a body. I found a new fuel tank (I think it's actually for a Landjump being black) and new optional front chain tensioner on ebay. I could almost make a second roller with the left over parts.

I still need a front bumper and the alloy plate that goes with it, and when finances allow, an engine/pipe, radio box & lid.
