Unless you've changed the spur since these pics were taken, you're using 32 pitch gears, not 48's. FYI.

Thank you. That's what I was curious to know.

Is it? I remember hearing it was best to Gear down to keep motors cooler.

Would a 550 motor fit these cars?

I was looking at an HPI 1145 14.4v motor.

Physically, yes. 550 motors are just longer than 540 by a bit. That said, I wouldn't use that particular motor. No idea what makes it designed for 14.4 volts. And it won't work with your new ESC anyway since it's limited to 7.2 volts input. Well the motor would but you couldn't feed it 14.4 volts with that ESC, I mean.

Im not sure that is correct. This ESC is 3S lipo capable in its paperwork. I've already run one 3s pack on it. The NIMH pack i have is 8.4v and it works well too.

That is correct, gearing down will make it run cooler.........*if* that's actually the problem.

Plus, 1 tooth on a pinion is like 4 teeth on a spur gear, so that's be like changing 12 teeth on the spur, it's a huge jump. Pinion changes are usually made 1 tooth at a time. You can go down to 13, but just be aware it may be too much.

As for a 550 motor, there's no need for something that big in an RC10, you'd never be able to get all the power out of it.

Oh, if doesn't have an issue overheating when I'm not overvolting a motor. I just like fiddling with things. Same with the 550, no need, just experimenting, to see if it will hold the 3s battery.

And thank you, I'll try going down one tooth on a 32 pitch pinion.

The 550 should physically fit, bolt and width-of-motor wise, but it'll stick out forther towards the drivers side, maybe causing a weight imbalance?

Could be, I'll see when I get it. It will probably go in the B3 I just bought, so that I can stop messing with this one.

The 550's are generally considered truck motors, for the short course segment. I have one in my highly modified Traxxas Slash 4x4. The can is noticeably longer than a 540.

Yeah, that's what I read. Should be interesting to see how it acts in a buggy.

Too many stickers and dirt caked in all the wrong places, reminds me of being a kid.
