How is the servo mounted in that orientation? Did you need to drill? I might just be slack and use servo tape

Thanks for that Dave.DaveM wrote:Patience, Brothers, patience![]()
Brian said in a previous post, he wants to test all the parts again to make sure everything is up to
scratch and not going to break, also that the belt is not going to stretch.
Cheers, Dave.
The last thing i want to do is sell you guys a bunch of parts that break or don't work properly, especially since i think (and hope) that a lot of you will build runners. Thats why I'm holding off till i get some laps in on the car. I want to make sure the kit is worth the wait, Jeff and i have been working on it for over half a year now, another week or so won't kill anyone.
That having been said, I'll have the car on our local indoor clay track tomorrow (Thursday) night putting it through its paces. Wish me luck guys, if it goes well i will be releasing the kit within a few days.

Re: Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project
Well guys, unfortunately the caster blocks need some more reinforcement

I didn't really add much at all to them, and apparently it wasnt nearly enough. Now I'm going to add the maximum amount of material space will allow, which i think will do the trick.
I did manage a lap, the car felt pretty good. I took out the caster block on the same big jump i broke both caster blocks and steering blocks last time. I think the new steering blocks are pretty bullet proof now.

Damn
I was able to run my short arm up and down the street in the dark a little, felt great and besides spinning both front tires off the rims it was great.

Re: Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project
Welcome to the wonderful world of trial and error engineering. I work for an aerospace company and go through thousands of prototypes for basically everything. 3D printing has shortened this process greatly. Fortunately, we have all of this in the next room and don't have to wait for a 3rd party to print and ship. Great work guys, it's a grind but keep at it.

Re: Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project
Alright, so I've redesigned the caster blocks and added a LOT more material in the areas they broke and extended the hinge pin boss to support the round portion where they have broken, as well as made some other changes to make them stronger. Maybe the 3rd try is a charm, lets hope so!

Re: Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project
There, I added some 1/8" thick gussets to further support the area that broke between the round body part and the hinge pin boss, and one to support the camber link boss, just to be safe. I'm a man on a mission now, I'm tired of f'ing with this thing

Re: Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project
Here are some new steering options. Mounting the steering servo in the stock location results in a very *slight* rubbing between the servo horn and the bottom of the belt. In my testing so far this causes no issue at all. But in case that sort of thing bothers you, here are two more choices.
The first is an in-line steering set up. Jeff has been using this on his short arm Ten4 prototype car and it works well. You will need to either drill new servo mounting holes in your chassis or use servo tape to mount the servo: The second option has the servo link on the right-hand bell crank and therefore moves the servo horn to the right side of the car, away from the belt. As with the above option, you will need to either drill new servo mounting holes in your chassis or use servo tape to mount the servo: All 3 steering options will be available once the kit is released.

Hi Brian,
I was devastated when you showed the broken caster block and could not comment.
But the new caster block definitely look beefier, keep up the good work!
Cheers, Dave.

No way to use modern parts instead?
