stripping a painted tub
what is the best way to strip paint off of an aluminum tub without removing the anodizing. i know this was posted before but cant find it when using the search page i guess it was removed or too old. the chassis tub and nose plate i got with my 4wd legend kit a while ago have been painted. for some reason the previous owner painted what appears to be a near mint condition black tub white on inside and blue on bottom. i guess either a brake fluid or acetone bath would work right?
Re: stripping a painted tub
you could always try paint stripper, they sell is at home depot in a spray can or brush on the paint bubbles up and you scrap it off. I'd try it on a test peice first to see if it will damage the anodizing.

YAY!!! I have 2 Gold Chassis' that have been painted Black (1 is gloss-like, the other is Flat). Will Acetone ruin the Gold Finish?

i used a urethane paint reducer on mine. the shock towers, too. the discoloration on the tub is not from the reducer. that's good old ae quality anodizing. ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

wow that came out great scr8p. i wound up using brake fluid bath in a cheap roasting pan. it softened it up good and scraped right off. looks brand new with like 3 or 4 nicks/scratches on the bottom. it really suprised me cause i thought it was pretty bad under there why else paint it, who knows stupid people i guess.

Re: stripping a painted tub
you want to talk about stupid people, mine was pulled right from the box and painted. then never finished being built. it worked out good for me though. i won this on ebay for like $60.00. although i did spend a lot of money replacing all of the dyed parts...................
