Transmission help
Transmission help
Im trying to get my RC10 back on the track! I have a Composite Craft chassis for the 6 gear tranny! My problem is I have no tranny for it! I will be running brushless 13.5 or 17.5! What is my best option!
I would like to put a 3 stealth in but there are so many version mentioned on here! I dont even know where to start, muchless what and where to buy!
I do have a Custom Works tranny but it moves the outdrives up and back, plus how to mount it!
I know this stuff is all old hat to you guys but I last touched my RC10 '91ish! Any and all help is very welcomed!

Re: Transmission help
If you're set on a stealth trans I say drill holes in your chassis to support it. There's an associated drill guide or if you have a stealth ready chassis you could use that as a template.
Lol I've read tons of threads on here about drilling into chassis and one of them actually helped talk me out of doing it to a NOS one, but if the chassis was used I surely would have proceeded.
Good Luck with your decision and remember to enjoy it.

Re: Transmission help
Fred, I think the CW tranny is a B3 unit!
Spoon, its not a NOS chassis, I raced with it back in '87-91ish! I dont mind drilling on it! Im not dead set on a stealth, I just want something thats pretty easy to find and maintain! Also something that works well with a 13.5 motor!
All I have is basically roller, no other RC10 parts at all! Only parts I have ordered so far, are a full set of 2.2 conversion arms from Fred! Everything on the roller will be a fresh rebuild! Im working on an order list, that I plan to run by you guys before I order!

Re: Transmission help
Here's the drill guide/template for the 2.25:1 Stealth trans: http://rccarbonworks.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_36&product_id=103
If you want to mount the B3 transmission only drill the 2 new holes that are closest together...the holes between the existing 6-gear mounting holes. Those holes are the same on the original 2.25 stealth and the B3 stealth. You'd then have to cut out a rectangular hole in the chassis for the rectangle at the bottom of the B3 case to fit in. Finally you'd have to come up with your own method of connecting the trans case to the rear bulkhead. The methods for doing that are different on the 2.25 Stealth trans and the B3 trans.
Or you can just buy a 2.25 stealth trans. To make sure you're getting the correct version just buy one that isn't in a black case. The 2.25 trans came in black but none of the other cases came in white, off-white, or could be dyed.

Re: Transmission help
Am I going to have to design a new brace that connects the RC10 bulkhead to the B3 stealth case? Hmmm...

Re: Transmission help
Thanks for the info guys! Looks like the 2.25 steath will be the easiest way to go! I like the CW/B3 option but Im not sure I trust my Dremel fab skills...lol Plus it seems that the CW/B3 out drives would still be higher and futher back!
Now to see if I can find a complete 2.25 stealth!

Re: Transmission help
The problem is that I don't have one of those gearboxes to mock anything up with.

Fred, I can send you my CW/B3 tranny if you would like to mess with it! The only thing is I only have the CW motor mount! It would be cool to have the option on running a stealth or the CW/B3 tranny!
