Novak NER2.4ghz????

Post by Westcoast10z »

Time for my yearly post, oh geez
So I have been itching to do a completely "period-correct racer"-runner, one with all old Novak bits and an o.g. Reedy Modified motor.
Now for obvious reasons the old radio stuff is not very practical these days with the cell interference, so I had been kicking around the idea of replacing the innards
of an old NER with modern bits. So Tactic comes out with the new TR325, and the measurements look just right, so I gave it a shot (on an old beat-down example in case of disaster).
And lo and behold, after a bit of a soldering nightmare (since when was I blind?) it is done, and works beautifully:

Sorry my workstation is filthy... and the photo is blurry... argh this camera needs to go....

It is a missile on 2S, sounds like an old RC10 should! The tape on the RX is 1/4" vinyl pinstriping tape from ebay. The Tactic rx is $25.
Now I need to figure out how to remove the broken off wire from inside the wing tube...
I know it's not totally period correct to skip the antenna, but I like the clean look (and preserving the old innards).
Also I love how Tamiya Rough Rider tires squeal on blacktop. And the front tires and nose tubes are rere... but nothing else dangit!
I have a Novak problem....

Great project, now to get a high frequency esc in that case! (I was aghast at the rough throttle when I tried running my novak 1 esc)

What is cell interference? Do Li-Po's interfere with AM and/or FM radio signals?

Out of interest, what servo do you use? I think you need also digital servo as old analog one might work erratic on most 2.4 GHz systems. But don´t know that Tactic ssystem.

Am using an ol' futaba s28. For my purposes (light parking lot runs), it works fine!
