Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
A small update for you.
I found some new bearings that happened to be the right size in my parts stock so I set about re-fitting the back end, after it was cleaned up. Stripped and inspected the diffs and they looked great so just cleaned those up and put new grease in. Waiting on a new long belt so I can progress further.
With that done I turned my attentions to the wheels and tyres. The tyres hadn't been glued to the rims which was a godsend really. However there are spots of glue on the outer face of the rims that need to be removed. The rims have also faded so I'm not sure how I'm going sort that issue out. Any tips?

The chassis looks good. Tonight I'm going to attempt clean the glue off of my yz-10.

Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
I think if they were mine and going for an original look I'd get some rit dye and try 'touching' up the color with some fuschia. Not sure how well they would take the dye though since I haven't ever dyed any yokomo wheels. If that doesn't work would you still consider it original if you put some new production JC wheels on it from the UK?sludgeguts wrote: The rims have also faded so I'm not sure how I'm going sort that issue out. Overall its lookin good. Really need to do something with at least one of mine but might get back to work on my parts building a runner...now see what you did

Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
Cheers Todd. I had considered dying the wheels but it's not something I've done before and I really don't want to make a mess of it. I'll have a bit of a think on that one.
Those JC wheels are ace and I've got a set on my YZ10 94 but I think they are the wrong offset for the 870 plus they are slightly bigger than the original wheels. Really trying to stay as close to original with this one, even down to the crappy shocks

Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
Another update. Chassis back together!
Work done so far:
Chassis cleaned
Diffs checked, cleaned and greased
Belts replaced from stock. Have a new long belt still to be delivered which I'll fit as the one that's on it is slightly twisted.
Dampers checked, cleaned and freshly oiled.
Tyres repaired with CA glue then coated in sillicone spray. Look pretty good now.
Jobs to do:
Fit electrics.
Trim new shell and paint. May well farm out the paint job as I've got a complicated colour scheme in mind and my paint skills aren't up to much.
Final check over and setting up.

Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
Just realised I've got the belt running the wrong way over the tensioner. Should be running underneath rather than over the top.

Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
Blimey has it really been that long since the last update on this?
I had all but forgotten about this due to a recent house move but I came across it again a couple of days ago and set myself a deadline of the end of this week/early next to get the old girl finished. Anyway here's a picture of it's current state.
Paint and liquid mask should be here tomorrow along with the decals and the electrics still need to be fitted.

Looking good. Would be nice to see a video of this running!
I'd go for a nice simple shell.
Keep it up!

Re: Mr Gut's 870C Project
Well it's done............ for now
Bit behind schedule as I completely messed up painting the shell. To be honest the paint still isn't great as I should have done a better job of masking up the window area. I used liquid mask and I think I applied it too thinly so the paint seeped under but I like the colour and it looks ok from a distance so I'll leave it for now.
Right, onto the pics:
I will probably get another shell for it and get it airbrushed by someone at a later date and there are some parts that I may upgrade in the future as I may well run this one.
